Does anyone know how close Humira is to being okayed for UC? I am on Remicade but the effects don't seem to last more than a month. Besides being more convenient to give myslf an injection instead of having a 2-3 hour infusion, I think the more frequent dosing might be better for me. My GI doesn't seem to like to prescribe off-label, nor when things are too new (I am JUST getting on Lialda now, it's nice not sweating remembering my pills all day!), so I was just wondering if anyone had an inkling as to when this might be approved for us. I believe it is on track for UC approval.

My Godchild's very good friend is now on Humira but she is living in Canada and due to return to the US when her husband's job transfer goes through. She was suffering and very close to needing surgery as nothing was working. She suffered for many years while living in the US and in Canada. Long story short this has done the trick for her and surgery is not even an issue now.

I'm wondering when she comes back to the US in the next few months what kind of difficulty she will have if any if it is something that is not allowed in the treating of UC. But since she is on it and it is the only thing that worked for her then maybe that will be the exception??? And yes it is definitely UC that she has.

Because of all my husband is going through my Godchild is in touch with her on a regular basis and was trying to get information from her in the hopes it might help him. Imuran did nothing for her but it does seem to be making a big difference so far for him now after 4 1/2 months.

Good luck - there must be enough studies out there to support using Humira with UC. If it can help some I hope it is approved sooner and not later.

I'm shortly going to be beginning a study in the US for Humira use with UC.  Your MD may be able to prescribe it for you but your insurance will not pay for it until it becomes an approved use.  I'm hoping this is the thing I need as I have failed Remicade also (the time got shorter and shorter that it would work post infusion).  I'm not sure how close in the study process it is to being approved but I know that this study I am getting into is 52 weeks long.  Maybe look in to participating in a study?

Keep us posted how you do on the Humira. Not so sure about participating in a study, all the ones I have looked into seem to take a lot of time commitment and I am already spread very thin.

Good luck with the study!

All insurance is different. Mine actually approved Humira and Remicade for me. Right now I'm on Remicade but if it stops working than we'll switch to Humira. Doesn't hurt to try to see if you can get it.
