What a great site this is.  I've a little look through but will have a proper read when I have time and am not a work!!

I was just after a bit of advice from people though regarding hair loss.  I was on Prednisolone for about 6 months and thankfully have been off them for 2 (fingers crossed!).  I have been suffering with horrible hair loss since May and it is still ongoing even though I am off the steriods.

I see other people have suffered/are suffering similiar and just wanted a bit of reassurance and advice - hopefully.  Is it likely that it will stop before it all disappears and does it grow back.  It really does look awful now and every day for me now is a bad hair day!!  I would be grateful to hear about other's stories regarding this.

Look forward to hearing from you.

I am so sorry to hear that. I could not imagine, I would be so upset. I hope that you are able to stop the hair loss!

I'm also on Asacol, 2 tablets, 3 times a day.  It's just so annoying because I mentioned it to my Consultant months ago and he thought nothing of it.  I'm not saying he could necessarily have done anything but it would have been nice if I could have been taken a little more seriously as it is still ongoing so there is obviously a problem!!

I am only on asacol also, and have decided that when I get bald spots I will just shave my head (lol) I know its not funny, mine falls out daily. luckily I had really thick hair to start out with. but it is thin thin thin now.But I do have new hair growing back in all the time. Im scared to change meds to anything else because I do really well on the asacol. except for the hair lose.I am trying to decide weather I want to be flaring are bald.

There are some people that are sensitive to the ingredients of Asacol and many on here have loss hair while taking that. So maybe your hair loss is from the Asacol instead of the Pred or maybe it was a combination of both. Many of us here take and swear by Biotin, including me. I absolutely love this stuff since it has done wonders for both my hair and nails. I imagine (and hope for your sake!) that once you get to the bottom of the hair loss, it will grow back.

hey~ my hairloss started when i was almost off the steroids but continued for probably 4 months after. i does stop, i swear! the hairloss for me i think was a combo of the drugs and malnourishment my body was getting while in a flare. i took the biotin as well and although it didn't seem to make the hairloss stop, once it started growing back, it did grow back faster which is nice. i know the horrible feeling it is to look in the mirror and see too much scalp or have hair be all over the back of your shirt, pillow, shower, floor, etc. it was a hard thing for me because i felt like even when i was feeling better, it made me look like i wasn't healthy. i bought several cute hats and tried to rock them as best i could. hang in there, tons of us have been there.:)

Can anyone recommend any Biotin supplements i.e. brand and dosage? I've had a quick look in the shops but can't find anyone that sells just Biotin alone. Many thanks.

I take various brands but always buy 5mgs (5000mcgs). I tried less then 5mgs but it didn't seem to work as well as the 5mg. A good thing about Biotin is that it's not toxic to your body so what your body doesn't need it will eliminate naturally. But if you can't find it alone even in a health food store (not sure where your from?) then any supplement that has it in it is better then nothing.
