I just found out that I was pregnant last week. Since then, I've been seeing signs of a flare coming but don't know what meds I can take. Does anyone know if you can take Rowasa enemas while preg? Also what about fish oil, probiotics and Lily of the Dessert Aloe?
My stomach has been acting really strange. I hope this isn't what it will be like for the whole 9 months!
Any advice would be greatly appreciated.
Thank you!

Hi Krayer, if you go to the google search above and type in pregnancy and UC the first thing to come up are the notes I took at last years IBD symposium about being pregnant with UC. Rowasa is fine during pregnancy as is asacol and colozol. Fish oil i don't know about....but congrats to you!!!

Hi Krayer - I am 19 weeks pregnant and have taken Asacol and Rowasa the entire time. I've also had a 4 week taper of Prednisone for a flare-up during the first trimester. All are safe to take. I'm not sure about the fish oil, etc. My OB told me to stay away from herbal supplements and things like that in general. Kelly's notes from the symposium are fantastic... I'm sure you will find them helfpul.

Congratulations to you on your pregnancy!!!!
Current Medications:
- Asacol (4 pills, 2x per day)
- Rowasa (1 enema daily, as needed)
- Folic Acid (1 mg, 1x per day)
- Calcium (600 mg, 2x per day)
- Prenatal Vitamin (1x per day)

hey krayer~ i'm in my 14th week and am feeling like i might be starting a flare. i'm nervous but it seems the thing to do is get on some meds before it gets too bad. i've taken fish oil for joint pain, etc for 2 years and it's really helped me. i'm still taking it because it's supposed to be great for baby's brain development, etc. but you have to be sure and get a good pure brand because some of the cheaper ones have mercury and other contaminants in them. i use the carlson's brand and do cod liver in the fall/winter and fish oil in the spring/summer when i get more vitamin d through sunshine. going to check out kelly's note's now. take care and i hope you feel better soon, it's scary i know.

Thank you all so much for your responses. They were very helpful. I will continue to take the Rowasa because it seems to help so much when I start to flare. I don't want to risk my flare getting out of control. I do need to check my fish oil to make sure I've got the right kind! As far as the probiotics and other stuff I will wait to take those until I talk to my doctor.
Thanks Again!!!

Hi and congrats to u. I am also pregnant 8weeks & 5days. I am currently on 30mg of prednisone along with 9asacol per day. I just met with my high risk ob yesterday and he reassured me i have nothing to worry about with the prednisone. As a matter of fact he said that i shouldnt rush of the prednisone becuz it doesnt even cross the placenta. Less stress= better for u and baby. So im less worried now and am super excited about having a sonogram every 4weeks.. Good luck to you, and take care of urself. smurf
