Good read...
Prebiotics include: Inulin, Fructo-oligosaccharides (FOS), Polydextrose, Arabinogalactan, Polyols—lactulose, lactitol
I read they are used as sugar substitutes and as dietary supplements.
What foods should I avoid to avoid prebiotics?

I don't remember off hand which specific foods (you could google prebiotics and get a list of those foods) but this article really through me for a loop, it was the last thing I expected to hear about prebiotics which contributes good bacteria in the gut, being bad for IBD and IBS since taking probiotics has been so helpful and so on.

Interesting article. Just as I suspected. I remember trying probiotics with the added prebiotic. Couldn't tolerate it at all. I was very discouraged thinking it was the probiotics, which had been so helpful for me, until I realized the prebiotic part was sugar, which is a no-no for me. When I went back to a probiotic without the added prebiotic, I felt fine. Still do. By the way, a little off topic, I went to my doctor today for a checkup. She had never even heard of caprylic acid, (couldn't even spell it) and didn't understand why I would be taking it to help my gut. As well, none of my friends have ever heard of a probiotic. When I suggest that they take them while on an antibiotic program, they just say..."huh?" Again, doctors just don't know about fungus/yeast.  Do your own research. Don't always depend on your doctor knowing everything.

I don't think that all prebiotics are bad. Just the ones created from artificial sugars. We all know that artificial sweeteners aren't good for guts. We also know that too much sugar is bad. So WHY ON EARTH are the putting that stuff in infant formula???

example of good prebiotic: Acacia Fiber

This is not really true the way they present it. The reality is that short chain FOS or inulin is the culprit in this- SHORT CHAIN. Long chain inulin and other resistant starches are good for you. I have taken short chain inulin in the form of "fiber sure" from the makers of metamucil. It's primarily short chain inulin. I had an immediate bad reaction to this stuff. I hadn't cramped up so bad in a LONG time. However, mixed long chain fiber like "fiber choice" I have no problem with and actually feel really good using. Same inulin just one is short and one is longer. And that makes ALL the difference because of the types of bacteria that are able to ferment these various sizes of sugars.
