I got a gastro appt for the 15th of Oct... phew.  (that's better than the Dec 3rd appt

I was looking at before!)

My regular dr's nurse spoke with me on the phone for a while, I told her all my symptoms,

and she said she'd call around and try to get me something.  20min later, she called back with

that appt... which is in a building next door to my regular dr!  Hooray for pro-active nurses!

My abdominal pain has improved a little bit... but that's mostly because I'm not

really EATING.  I bought some baby food sweet potatoes and pears and I'm mixing

it with baby rice cereal... REALLY.  I also bought some pear juice which I'm diluting

2/3 with water.  I had some canned pears too.  I didn't have much diarreah all day

although I still had general GUT pain.  Not severe... but pain.  So then tonight I

was hungry for something SOLID... I ate a boiled & skinned (real) sweet potato...

and I've been paying for it for the last hour or so.  Sigh.

I have a regular dr's appt on Tuesday... she is going to take more blood since my

liver function was off last time (and she also has to do a pap, yuck).  Maybe the

stool sample I gave them will be back at that point too.  That'd be helpful.  I'll ask

her what she wants me to do until my appt on the 15th (which'll only be 6 days

away at that point).

Hi Chloe36, and welcome to Healingwell! I'm so glad that got an appt. with the GI. Are you currently on any meds or are they waiting until you see the doc? I'll tell you what really helped me when I was flaring; peanut butter, vitamin water or Gatorade to replace electrolytes, yogurt, soft cheese. But everyone is different. It's good that you have an earlier appt. with your other doc; maybe they can give more suggestions. Take care, and let us know how the appts. go. Again, welcome!

Peanut butter sounds soooooooo good right now. I might have to try that. The Jif is calling my name.....
I AM hungry- really hungry, but I'm just tired of dealing with the aftermath of EATING. Uch.

I'm not on ANY meds... this just started up the 2nd of Sept (my birthday, nice present, huh?!?!).  I

WAS diagnosed with colitis when I was 12 though... and it certainly feels like it's made its ugly return.

Chloe - I found that NOT eating gave me some serious cramps! For me, eating little bits every hour or two kept something in my gut for it to chew on...

Would your GP be willing to prescibe Asacol or something similar to get you on the road to healing?

So glad to hear you got in sooner!

I will certainly ask my GP to prescribe me SOMETHING! It's 6 days inbetween my GP appt and my GI appt, so hopefully she'll go ahead and prescribe me SOMETHING, even if it's just for those 6 days.

Hey Chloe, yep, nice present! I received mine around Christmas Day, so I know about the nice present! Yuck! Dawn had a great suggestion too -- eat smaller meals throughout the day. I eat about six mini-meals. I'm in "Remicade remission" right now, but I find if I eat smaller meals throughout the day I keep my energy up and also have less of a problem with digestion. As soon as I switch and save up to eat one big meal, I have some problems. Another good thing I found is Powergel and Danactive. They both give me some energy and are easy on the gut.

After Carol mentioned the DanActive, I remembered that I used Carnation Instant Breakfasts to make sure I got nutrients. But I was using it because I was nauseous and couldn't keep much down... I dunno. Just thought I would throw that out.

I hope you're feeling better - if even just a wee bit :)
