so I've read on here and other places about natural things to take to attempt to get inflammation under control but now I want to know about the bleeding.
Are there any natural things out there we could be taking in addition to our scripts to help with the bleeding?

I guess another question I have is can we pass blood WITHOUT the inflammation or is the inflammation why we have blood?

Thanks again for sticking with me on my questions smurf

Sorry I really can't answer your question about anything natural to take.  But how long have you been bleeding?  When I was first diagnosed last year, I bled for 2, maybe 3 months before it finally stopped all together.  Sometimes it just takes a while, especially in a severe flare.  I would assume that the inflammation is the body's response to the ulcerations, so I guess any bleeding would mean the colon is likely inflamed as well.  (don't think you'd bleed without inflammation...the ulcerations not only cause the bleeding, but also cause the inflammation)

Have you considered adding a probiotic? I also take a fiber supplement to help bulk things up.

Jini Patel Thompson's book Listen to Your Gut lists supplements and dietary recommendations for getting bleeding under control. If you're interested, I can grab my book when I get home and give you the highlights.

Bleeding comes from ulceration which is part of the inflammatory process, as I understand it. So, no... you wouldn't have bleeding without inflammation, unless perhaps it was hemorrhoids or anal tears. But the type of bleeding is usually quite different from the bleeding of a bad uc flare.

Bleeding comes from the fact that the tissue is "friable" or fragile and has started to break down and easily peel away. There's a process of the destruction of tissue...not all have visible ulcers or ulcerations..but yes, you would only have bleeding with inflammation, and as princesea mentioned..it could be from anal tears (fissures) or hemorrhoids.

What other symptoms are you having? Diarrhea?

Since UC starts at the rectum, it seems it's the last part to heal as well as the first place to start. Considering the wear and tear it gets during bms..it will still be fragile..especially with more formed bms.

You should really consider to discuss rectal meds with your doctor...I'd suggest 5ASA retentions enemas ...to help the healing process.

I also support the probiotic suggestion.
