Hey Dave,

Well.............. Cast your mind back to my original post....... (Reducing asacol or not)

I spoke with my consultants secretary today (12 days later ). "The doctor said, refer back to your original Asacol medication (2tabs x 3 daily), and he'll try and see you before February in an outpatients clinic"

Need I say more - Why oh why do so many people in the UK self prescribe - This says it all!

thanks for asking tho Dave. I'm pleased to say that i'm feeling a lot better, and not passing anywhere as near as much blood.
Still painfull and suffering from C tho. any ideas to help?

I'm not gonna stay on the pred for long, for obvious reasons, and aim to reduce a little quicker, hoping to get of within 14 days. If it gets worse, or deteriorates rapidly, it's back on the phone, GP, and if that gets me no-where again, it's of to A&E me thinks?

I'm taking 1600 calcium daily to keep those bones safe ;o)

thanks for asking how I was, it's comforting to know how much ppl care.

Cheers mate :o)

Craig,

Glad to hear the blood is reducing, the only thing that I find helps the pain is a good old hot water bottle, seriously mate the heat applied does wonders for me.

Good to hear you are taking the calcium, of course you are an old sweat when it comes to pred so you are well aware of the possible implications of this effective yet harmful drug.

Are you aware of the ibd club and NACC yet? if not the check out the sites below, both provide information regarding UC for UK sufferers also NACC runs support groups all over the UK I joined both when first diagnosed, IBD club is run by Addenbrookes hospital, they provide a brilliant information pack together with a free ring binder to keep the info in.

http://www.ibdclub.org.uk/index.html

http://www.nacc.org.uk/content/home.asp

Where abouts in the UK are you, I'm from Manchester although I'm in the Army so rarely see the rainy city. Well I have ramble on far too much as usual, don't hesitate to drop me a line anytime.

Take care.

Thanks for that info Dave,

I'll certainly look into those sites etc.

I'm just down the road from Manchester, in Warrington, so not too far away, and believe me, it's still as rainy as ever.

I'll try the hot water bottle, hopefully it will help make me 'go' ?

Thanks again mate.

Hey Dave,

just thought i'd let you know............

After pestering my Consultant's secretary this week, and the appointmentd dept at my local hospital, I got a ancellation appointment for today :o)

I must have been in with my consultant (who i've now actually seen, normally the registrar). and guess what............... Pred to the max.  40mg for two weeks!

I'm already feeling a bit better, but i'm wondering about dropping to 35 after 1 week.  I don't wanna stay on that stuff for any longer than necessary. What do you think?

I'm back to see him in 4 weeks.

Craig,

I'm so glad that you are feeling better, Pred does have an amazing way of doing that even though the side effects are a nightmare, I gotta say though I personally would follow the doctors orders what difference can a week make, after all you are taking the calcium supplement to deflect the damage to your joints and bones, so seriously I would do the 2 weeks.

What's the score with the Azathioprine mate? I have been on it since Jan 06 and it's given me my life back!!! Seriously worth considering, in my opinion, I know the possible side effects are heavy but with a good medical team and regular blood tests any abnormlities should be found early.

Anytime you're at a loose end drop me a line if you want you'll find me email buy hitting my screen name over there on the left hand side.

Take care.
