Hello,

I have been on prednisone since 8/2006.  Everytime I hit low doses, I get really sick (can't eat, nauseous.....).  I am bleeding alittle now and have like 2-3 bm's a day.  IF I could get off the prednsione and see through the sickness, is it abnormal to still bleed?  I guess what I am asking is:  are there uc'ers out there that are not on prednisone but just some blood everyday and they just deal with it or is it just unexceptable to bleed?  I have an appt to get my colon removed in feb of 2008 but, of course, would like to avoid it, if possible.

thanks

Typically it's not ideal to bleed at all but I know for me there are times when I still have very minor bleeding in which I do nothing about it. I'm talking like maybe a small strip on the stool but with no other symptoms. I usually just keep an eye on it and if the bleeding continues for more then a day or two then I start back on my suppositories. So, no I don't always treat minor bleeding but I do cautious watching.

No, not everyone necessarily bleeds, nor do the ones that do bleed necessarily bleed all the time.

I know we can get used to anything, and we can have UC for so long that having *just a little blood* doesn't worry us.

but it is NEVER normal or acceptable to be bleeding.

There are other drugs your GI can give you if what you're taking isn't working. Just don't accept the blood, because if you are still flaring, you will get more and more damaged.

I am bleeding now and it is not normal for me to bleed when not flaring, but typical when in a flare. Sorry you are going through all this!

There are many symptoms with IBD, bleeding, frequency, urgencies, ect, they are typical symptoms, none of them are normal, it's the nature of the beast...when new symptoms appear it's standard that you go see your doc so he can be sure if it's simply the nature of the beast or if something eles is going on, like cancer.

I am currently at 2.5mg per day and tomorrow will be my last day. I had been on 20mg for over a year and SCD finally stopped the bleeding. I didn't bleed for about 3 or four months so my Dr and I decided to start tapering. I have very minor bleeding now, but I am almost off so I am happy about that. Along with the bleeding i have a little mucus mostly in the mornings. Hopefully my body just needs to adjust to being off prednison.
