I have been reading on here that people are taking fibre supplements and that they help with their UC.

I am going to start taking psylium husk tablets from today but not sure how much to take.

I have used fibre in the past and got bad D and gas but that was the fybogel drink and think maybe it was too strong for me.

The psyllium husk tablets are 500mg.  Should I take just one?  The directions say take 6 a day but that seems a bit excessive.

Any advice greatly appreciated! Many thanks

Just take one/day to start as it may cause bloating and gas or increase present bloating and gas, once bloating and gas subsides (and it will) then if necessary (stools are not formed enough, frequency has not lessened some) then take 2/day...I've been taking one prodiem stool bulker a day since I started over 4 yrs ago now...my GI said to take it indefinitely and I plan to.

Hi,

I don't have an answer for you, but I would also like to know how much others take. I recently bought both Metamucil wafers (psyllium husk) where the dose is 6 grams of fiber and I bought Fiber Choice chewable tablets which have 4 grams of fiber/dose. I haven't tried the Fiber Choice yet, but both times I had the metamucil my stomach hurt for a while afterward and it hasn't yet bulked anything up...I think maybe I should start out at a lower dose. I have read that the typical female adult should have 25 grams of fiber daily, but that seems like a lot. Men need even more. Hope someone else can better answer your question.
=)
