Hi guys:

No GI ever done a lab on me except biopsy in colonoscopy.  I wonder my UC might be caused my some infections or bugs. Any labs you guys recommend? Thanks!        Peter

Hm... Your doctor doesn't do a normal CBC bloodtest when you visit? I'd think that this would be fairly standard, at least with a new patient or one in the midst of a flare-up. Maybe you need to quiz your doctor about this and find out why he/she isn't testing to rule out infections and at least to monitor your blood. When I go to a GI when I'm really sick, the first thing they do are blood and stool tests to make sure that I don't have some kind of parasite or something, make sure I'm not anemic, etc.

I think it's good to wonder about whether your doctor is doing everything necessary for you and considering your illness from all angles. If you are concerned that s/he is missing something you might want to try another doctor for a second opinion.
