2 Asacol 4X per day.  In the morning when I wake up, around 11am, 4pm, and again before I go to bed. (as long as I remember to take them anyways)

I think I'm going to start going 2,2 & 2 instead of 3 & 3.

I take two Asacol (400mg) three times a day.  Breakfast, Lunch and Dinner.  You know, I was just reading a research article I found the other day on how Asacol was found to be extremely effective in preventing colon cancer.  But the research was done using 4,500 mg a day.  So that is almost 12 pills a day which I believe is the maximum dose of Asacol.  So, I don't how effective my little six pills a day do for preventing colon cancer.  But, something to think about, Zurich

I'm curious to know if you have side effects? Are you tired all day long?

No, I don't get tired from it as far as side effects go. I don't worry about side effects of it as much as the effectiveness of the drug itself on the disease. I am not saying that these 5ASA drugs are the cure all for IBD. We are prescribed to pop a lot of pills on a daily basis and its not for a short term period, its for a lifetime. So I look for the long term advantages to these drugs. Perhaps it may reduce the risk of colon cancer some day.

gosh that's so good to hear, but for me, I have taken asacol, pentasa and colozal and every time, I have diarreah, headaches, and I'm so tired that I don't get off the couch. Right now I'm on supplements from a Naturalpath Dr. and I've been off meds for 18 days so far. Do you think the medication is out of my system? I'm getting better slowly, each day. No blood at all anymore. The explosive diarreah is gone too. I still have diarreah every day, but stool too. Yesterday when I was driving I felt the diarreah hit a nerve in my butt and I though oh no I'm not going to make it. I was calm and this is huge for me. I had no problem driving another 10 miles to a gas station. Before, I would have never had made it pass the "oh no" feeling. I'm driving my car these days and not thinking about my butt or a bathroom, this is huge! When you committ to a natural pathway, you have to give it 4 months at least to see a big improvement. I've been on my supplments one month and one week and off meds 18 days. I am starting to feel better as a whole. My main thing was my nerves. I was in this cycle worrying about my butt, then it would effect me gut and then I would have to go to the bathroom. Brain, butt and gut and I feel like the cycle is breaking.

Six Asacol pills twice a day.

I'm always tired. Not sure why or from what.

4 pills, twice per day. I used to take 12 pills, and those were 4 pills, three times per day.

4 pills, 3 times a day (around 7:30 a.m.; 3:30 p.m. and 10:30 p.m.)

I am always tired, too (and lately nauseous), but I don't know why.

Quincy, are you taking 400mg or 800 mg pills? I have the 800mg pills. My doctor had me on a maintenance dose of 1 in the morning and one at night but I increased that to 3 per day when this flare started and may need to increase it again. If taking 1600 mg per dose isn't too much, I may just start taking 2 twice per day.

when I was on it I loved it, did not bother me at all. I did 2400mg 2x day for two years. (well not always 2x day I would forget the second part a lot).

Hey all...

I take 4 asacol at 8am, 4 at 2pm, and 4 at 9pm.

I am always tired but I think that is more UC than meds...I have never had any side effects from asacol, wish the same could be said for pred.

Hi..I take the 400mg dosage...so that's 2400mg daily.  3200mg dosage is equal to 8 400mg.  I was at that dosage once..increased from 6 to 8 for about 4 months..then tapered back down to 6.

I don't see that you're on the retention enemas...you should...really...give them a shot.  The 3200mg is good for treatment for oral..plus the rectal.

What are your symptoms at this time?

I haven't used the enemas but I am using Salofalk suppositories.  Are the enemas more effective than the suppositories? I had tapered them down to every other night but my symptoms are coming back so I'm back to every night.  I have also increased the Asacol to 3200mg as of today (was at 2400mg).

My flare is still moderately under control but I can feel things getting worse daily since I quit smoking on Tuesday.  Before Tuesday, I still did not have formed BM (since this flare started in August) but at least no diarrhea...usually 2-3 a day and no visible bleeding.  Today the diarrhea is back (4-5 times today) along with the gurgling stomach and nausea.  So I fear things are about to get worse again.  sad

I take 3 tabs 3 x a day. Also doing night cortenemas for 14 days, then once every other night for 14 days. This is after coming off 30 days of prednisone. 3 days after I came off the prednisone tabs, guess what, same o'l crap (literally). Here's hoping the enemas will help and I will be changing to azulfidine as soon as I see my doc. The asacol does not seem to be absorbed all the time...

I was on 4 (400 mg) of Asacol 3 x a day but since I started my flare a few months ago, doc increased to 5 Asacol 3 x a day.  I haven't noticed any side effects of that specifically.  Again, it's hard to tell when you're taking so many drugs.
