I know i posted a similar thread last year but i think that us UCers need reminding that many of us do gain remission and stay symptom free for long periods. My longest is around 4 years, during that period i had stopped all medications.

So whats your and was there something that you identified that triggered that flare. Sometimes stress or when early spring comes( when my allergies kick in) i start flaring.

Remember people to keep the faith!!!!!!!!!

I had 9-1/2 solid and med-free years. Retrospectively I blame some antibiotics usage in the two years leading up to the relapse. However, because my remission was so solid, I felt invincible and truly felt that I had been mis-diagnosed all along.

1991-2005 no problems. Both huge flairs came in times of intense stress in my personal life. I started on Colazal on 9/18/07 and have absolutely NO symptoms right now. yeah yeah yeah

In the last seven years, my longest stretch of remission was 10 months. (I can't remember before that... hopefully it was longer!) I've had about 7.5 good months this year... with only a couple bad weeks in there. I'm aiming high and hoping this lasts for a long time!

It's amazing to read that people have been in remission for many years. Very encouraging for those of us who still count the good months, weeks, or days.

I don't think I have ever had a complete year (in all 46) of total remission. But then I have not had any really bad, bad flares that lasted a long time since I was in my twenties.
I mostly have good months and then not so good months.

Maybe I am just so used to living like this, I don't even know what normal is any more.

There is hope! My longest is 6 months...I was still counting until a few days ago when constipation set in with left side pain.

My last five years or so have been pretty much symptom-free. Getting complacent and lax with my diet put me back in a flare.

This matches my situation almost identically. One Gastro specialist I saw didn't think I had UC (thought I had IBS) because I was inactive with no meds for 9 years. Turns out he was wrong. Colonoscopy confirmed it.

I had 18 months no meds and in remission. Starting Remicade tomorrow so i guess i'll now have a longest in remission while on drugs. Well...if it works anyway. :P
