Well, I started the Lialda a few days ago. It's much easier to take 3 pills in the AM versus 12 throughout the day. I was doing great for the first few days using that and the canasa suppositories. Solid stools, no blood, mucus going away, etc. Then last night I had the worst cramps - like someone stabbed me with the sword of Montezuma himself. Went to the bathroom and had solid stools and then immediately after that, some D in the same sitting. Have a bit of D today as well with some blood. *sigh*

I don't get it. Wish I could understand my body sometimes - solid stools and then D right after? It's like something didn't 'process' right with my colon heh. When I was taking the asacol I had the same issue - worked great for a few days, then noticed symptoms still and stopped it thinking it wasn't working (big mistake since it hurt like hell afterwards and once i went back on the asacol i was feeling fine). Wondering if this is just part of the process of going into remission?

Also asked my doctor's office about cortifoam. The doctor didn't answer but the PA said that I should still stick with the canasa and if it doesn't help in a few days we can try the cortifoam, although her understanding was the foam was for internal hemorrhoids and proctitis which seems pretty dense to me. Have an appointment with the doctor on Wednesday so we'll see what can be done. Feel like grabbing him by the collar and pleading for something to make my symptoms go away for good.

Sorry to hear about the "d," etc.  I had good results with the Lialda once I started it.  I also watched very carefully what I ate.  I'm just wondering what you are eating and if it might be to fibrous, at the moment?  Hang in there and keep hoping for better!  How many Lialda are you taking? I think you might have said 3?  Maybe the GI will up your dose?

I have a pretty terrible diet to be honest. Mainly because every time I try to motivate myself to eat healthier, I don't notice drastic differences so I just get bummed out. Sometimes i'll eat healthy - salads and low fat meals but often times will eat greasy meals as well.

I am currently taking 3 of the Lialda's in the AM. So I guess that's 3600mg dosage? I was taking 4x400mg (3x a day) of the asacol so 4800 mg on that. I'm having about the same effectiveness with the lialda as with the asacol. I think the symptoms I keep getting are related to my proctitis.

I was told by my GI that I could have a small flare from changing my meds from Asacol to Lialda, but I was only on the Lialda for a few weeks then had to switch to pred......so I don't have much personal experience but was told it could give mea small flare and to wait it out a couple weeks, def let your GI know!

I am curious - I noticed that with the Lialda they say to take it with a meal. I usually just take it with some drink like water or gatorade. Does this have an impact on its effectiveness? Or is the meal more to help prevent any stomach issues while the pill is dissolving.
