hey - just noticed you're a vegan - i was before this nasty stuff hit me like a ton of really heavy bricks - i've changed a lot of things since my dx - if you don't mind me asking, are you V for ethical or health reasons ? i thought i was doing everything right & felt great for a lot of years and then BOOM, all heck broke loose - now i'm getting back to where i was, only 5 years older - oh well !

have you been tested for food intolerances ? my biggie was gluten, and i ate it like crazy - not anymore -

have you made any diet changes ?

hang in there - it will get better !

I eat a vegan diet for health reasons, the same reason I workout and dont smoke....but I ended up with UC anyway, lol. I probably should get tested for food intolerances, but Im afraid it will be soy or gluten or wheat because thats all I eat. Ive heard that what you eat doesnt cause UC and I believe it because I think it takes more than that to get your colon to look like mine. I guess maybe I would be better off if I ate foods that I wasnt intolerant of. Thanks for the tip, I will surely look into it :)

ya, i was doing it for health reasons too - sorta didn't work out like i planned - but i did save a few innocent lives along the way - i would really encourage you to try eliminating some of the grains from your diet - i think you'll see some benefit - i'm guessing you stay away from sugar too - if not, that would be something else to try -

my diet these days is mainly fruits, veggies & fish - no grains (or very little) not too much starch, some dairy, mostly yogurt, a few free range eggs and lots of h2o -

i noticed you have asthma - me too - allergies are in our systems unfortunately - we just have to try and avoid all the triggers -

just curious, but i'm betting your blood type is O+ -

i believe it's all about taking control back after this stuff hits - i felt totally OUT of control - but by now i'm a little smarter & making better choices - and that's really what life is - choices -

soystud - how did you learn that you were intolerant to certain things? did you actually do testing or an elimination diet? thanks.

hi NC - it was a blood test - my naturopath set it up for me - i'm not sure an md or gastro doc would be on board with it - you can also look into blood typing - for me anyway, it was very close to my food intollerance test results - i'm O+ which = meat guy, which is why a vegan diet didn't work for me - dang! my wife who is very skeptical of my thinking, likes meat - but according to her blood type, ab+, she should be a vegetarian - and she knows it - give her a hamburger or steak, and off she goes to the porcelain perch - she can't deny the facts - but that doesn't stop her ! she's a bit stubborn -
