sorry to do this again, but i need to vent. i have had so much blood in the past few days that my GI wants me to get another colonoscopy. not to whine, but i can't face another one--i am so sick of them--the last one hurt so much (i woke up from anathesia sp?) because i was in so much pain. i can't believe i have to do this again...when will it be over?? thanks (in advance) for listening--it really helps.

When was your last scope? Does he know where the blood is coming from or is that why he wants to do the scope? If your last scope was recent, what did he see and were you bleeding then? I'm sorry you are having to go thru this :( And vent away all you want - we have big shoulders to cry on!

I've had many colonoscopies. I hate the prep but the procedure has always been great. I also use to wake up during the procedure. Last time I told the anesthetist of that fact and she must have given me more because I didn't wake up until everything was done (that's with 23 biopsies). Just tell them that you usually wake up and feel the pain and they'll make sure to give you more feel-good drugs.

I agree with Burli. I had a sigmoidoscopy and they said they were going to give me drugs to make me "comfortable" but I was completely awake and felt EVERYTHING, and was not in the least bit comfortable at all. So the next time I went in, I told them that I didn't want to go through that again, and they gave me a lot more medication and I didn't remember a thing afterward. Just let them know it's too much to handle!! They don't want to torture you (hopefully!), they just want to find out what's really wrong.

If you're really inflamed and bleeding, I feel an invasive colonoscopy and prep that wipes out any good gut bacteria can be counterproductive. My gastro agrees. You aren't required to have one, just because your doctor wants it. Have you asked him what he hopes to accomplish? You could ask to put it off for a time, until you're feeling more healed. Or you might consider getting a second opinion.

I have had 4 done since first being dx in 98. My lasy one was this year on Jan2, and I did it with no drugs or gas or anything. I didn't have anyone to take me to the hospital or pick me up, so my DR just pumped me up with air, that was not too comfortable, and did it. I was awake and talking to him the whole time. I will do it this way again next time. I was in and out of the hospital in about an hour or so.
