Hi Everyone....we got in very late last night (flight delays, lost luggage) and trying to catch up e-mails and everything else right now.

Just wanted you all to know the two week vacation went better than either one of us were expecting.  There was one day of discomfort for him but nothing too serious.  It looks like things are continuing to improve.  We were careful in the eating out end of things as he has been eating smaller meals for the past 6 months and didn't want to "push it" and make that colon work too too hard...lol.  He took his naps in the afternoon but not for 4/5 hours like he had to last year there and even as recently as a few months ago.  He is getting stronger now and a bit more stamina.

It was such a pleasure this year as last year's vacation was not good at all and not too enjoyable.  Hopefully everything that is coming together and showing some positive results will continue for a good long while for him.

So for those out there still struggling keep the faith that things will improve.

Thanks Heather...what a difference a year can make. Last year travel days to and from were not nice and that was before all hell broke loose in March and April of this year. He could have never traveled if we had anything planned during March thru June of this year. (Just getting to a Dr appt was a mojor event during those 4 months!!!)

We are so grateful that a normalcy of some sort has returned. It is not the best, however when you have been at rock bottom and you can function even with some distractions you certainly appreciate life more and more.

We go back to the Mayo Clinic on the 19th of Nov for some more follow up stuff - I hope we can dovetail their care with our local GI here as the drive is a minimum of 5 hrs round trip. Hopefully we will get it to one or two visits per year which will be a lot more manageable.

Normalcy always fluctuates, which is an interesting process once one looks back at a long time span. Having many options is a good way to avoid longing for the good old days.

Five hours round trip..eek, that can put the test on anyone. I think twice a year is a good goal...and if it's possible make it an "outing" rather than a chore.

I hope the recuperation during the holiday continues now that you're back home.

Thanks again -- yes we regard the Mayo appts in that way - since it appears it will only be labs and a Dr appt we won't make hotel arrangements but will pack for a one or two night stay. There is the Inn at Mayo Clinic that connects directly to the clinic which is very convenient...especially the first visit last month that required a 5 night stay.

We are now starting the additional tapering from 15 to 12 1/2 and so on in 2 1/2 mg increments every 10 days now that we are back home. Hopefully the Aza has taken sufficient hold and there will be no noticeable difference getting off the prednisone and hopefully staying off it as he is also steroid dependant.
