I'm on 1g three times daily and just wondering if I could safely reduce that dosage somewhat. I'm also taking 100mg of Azathioprene a day... any experiences?

It's maintenance. Not flaring. Fingers crossed it will stay that way. Might ask docs to reduce it a little bit. Do you know about side effects of Pentasa?

I just got a prescription from my GI doc today for Pentasa for 1 500mg pill 4 times daily but he said that he could make it 2 500mg pills 4 times daily if I needed more.  I've been on Asacol for about 18 years but recently had a total abdominal colectomy because of high grade dysplasia found in my last colonoscopy and the coating on the Asacol isn't dissolving as well so I'm gonna try the Pentasa.  He said that it's designed to dissolve in the ileum and that should help me as all I have left is the rectum and about 3 inches of my sigmoid colon.  I just want to be sure and get something to work on what's left because I don't want any problems there that might cause dysplasia later.

53 yr old male, UC since 1978
800mg Asacol x 3 daily
Forteo(for osteoporosis)
600mg calcium + 200 iu Vit. D x 3 daily
Advicor(for cholesterol)
Sub-total colectomy with ileo-sigmoid anastomosis
