I've been waking up a lot at night with completly numb fingers and hands. VCould this be coming from inflamation around my spine.Or could it be just be trapped nerves in my back. It only happens at night whilst i'm sleeping.

i don't know what the cause may be, but i've found that i don't get it if i'm sleeping on a very soft bed.

My MIL had this happening to her for the longest time. Her wrists started to really ache on her during the day too when she realized that after she started wearing wrist braces that she was bending her wrist while she slept. So after she started wearing the braces at night, her night numbness went away. Maybe you can try wrist guards to see if this helps because it can also be carpal tunnel.

You may really want to check this out with a doctor as this was the first indication of my neuropathy...I take Lyrica for it now which is improved - but you can have this as a permanent condition if not treated early.

feel better

Marty, I have the same exact thing, and it only happens while I'm sleeping. Saw my family doctor about it and he said it could be carpal tunnel syndrome or the way I was sleeping at night. I really didn't buy either one and I normally sleep on my back. I was on prednisone at the time and had been for a long time and he said another possibility was that the edema or water weight that I had gained was somehow causing pressure on a nerve. Not sure about that one either. Earlier this year I had the numbness in my hands amost every night for about a month now I just get it maybe once a month.  I'm not sure if the times that I do get it now if my hands are on top of my body when I'm sleeping or if they are at my sides. I try not to elevate them because that could cause numbess too. I don't know if this is the way your numbness is but if I would flex my hands and fingers for a few seconds it would go away. Does yours continue?

For the last month my baby finger, ring finger, left side of hand have been numb. Ive brought it up with my GI, and MD and they both blew me off. My MD said it sounded like I had a pinched radial nerve in my elbow but never offered any suggestions on how to remedy this situation.

Mines has been constant at night for months now.Every morning when i wake they are completly numb and i can't move them. Or sometimes i get intense pins and needles in them that wake me up.
I do get it a little during the day. But during the day the numbness and tingling would be in my feet.Especially when i drive i get it, thats why i was thinking it was coming from my back.Glad to see i'm not on my own on this one.

Are you on Prednisone? I had nimbness and finger tingling when on Prednisone. I understand that can be a side effect of the drug. It is not pleasant!
