Anyone have any experience in treating a fistula? I am scheduling surgery for an internal hemmroid and I think I may also have an external fistula which I thought was a hemmroid. My PCP has referred me to a general surgeon. Shouldn't I see a specialist first? Thanks

You may want to post this also in the Chron's forum. If I am not mistaken Chron's patients deal w/ this more often.

Yes, I would post it on the crohns forum also. Are sure that your diagnosis of UC is accurate? If it does end up being a fistula, I would really ? your UC diagnosis. I have crohns, and I have had a few fistulas. Do NOT let a general surgeon operate on you. Find a GOOD colorectal surgeon.

I would also recommend finding a GI not a PCP for these issues.
