After reading many posts I am curious.  It doesn't seem like anyone has the same symptoms as I do.  Seems like everyone else gets diarrhea along with some blood and the blood stops before the diarrhea does.   UC was diagnosed Sept 06 and finally got the diarrhea and mucous under control by March.  I have been with the same symptoms since April 07.  I have bright red blood in my morning stool. And my stool has been formed for a long time.  Normally I don't have cramping.  I am having a little right now, I did a no-no and had a slice of pizza earlier.  I'm expecting this to pass by moring.

I have a colonoscopy scheduled for December.  I have been to my osteopath the beginning of October  and we upped the Asacol to 3 three times a day.
It's not helping. I will do the Mesalamine enemas ocassionally.  Anyone have any thoughts or ideas why I am still bleeding and everything else seems to be okay?
For the most part I watch what I eat and have only missed my noon meds twice this past month.

Thanks,

Snookiebow

Bright red blood sounds like hemis or a fissure. Did your doc check your bum for either of these?

Do you feel well despite the bright red blood that you see only in the AM?

when I was on the meslamine drugs and would flare, I would typically have a few more bm's a day w/blood in my mostly fully formed stool, no d, rarely cramping.........not like I went through a month ago, it was the tsunami of flares, I got it all.

My uc is in the first 30cm, mabye that is why, but only a guess on my part.

Yes I have that quite frequently. If it's only a small amount of blood in formed stool I don't worry too much. Maybe I should. I tend to start the extra meds when I begin the D and urgency with blood and mucus. You'll have to let me know what you find out. Oh yeah, did you decide to come to the conference this weekend?

Hi...I think you should at least try the 5ASA enemas nightly at least for a week or two and see if you improve or get worse...

Yes, it could be a fissure or internal hemmie...but the enema will help that as well.

Would you be willing to try that?

I do the enemas occasionally, but I can't do them at night. If I try to do it at night I end up with enema all over the sheets. The problem is I have bm in my colon that will not come out until the morning after I take a shower.   Then everything moves out.  I don't have time in the morning to lay down and let the enema work.  The thought is there to get up a half an hour earlier, but I can't do that.  I hit the snooze button and have to have myself and 4 kids (16, 12, 4, & 1) out the door by 7a.m. is quite the challenge.
So on Saturday mornings if I can go back to bed after the bm I will do the enema.

I do feel pretty good, when ever I eat something bad, which I don't do to often, I will get pain right side then top and left.  It seems like it just works its way around.

A morning bm has been my habit for at least 15 years.  How do you change the habit to having an evening bm?

Yes Leslie
I will see you in Philly!

I don't think you can change a natural biological function without some sort of ramification such as constipation. It's not normal to hold it in (which many of us can't do anyway!). But as long as you're going with no pain or D then I think you're doing great! Bleeding has always been my main issue. I had all the typical symptoms of course but I haven't had it like that for years. Mostly just blood on the stool. Instead of the enemas, have you tried the suppitories yet? It might be easier for you to keep in it at night and even though they only reach so far in, at least you're still getting some medication to that area.

Could be an internal hemerhoid. I have had that, and it is not really related to UC although it fooled me for a while. If so, suppositories are the ticket. Especially when you are having formed stools.
