 Hi Everyone
I ,m new here and hope it is ok to come on .I did have UC but now have a j pouch,my UC was very agressive,it lasted only 23 days then I got toxic mega colon,so the choice was very easy for me to make.I Have read many post on the site here and can see how terrible this disease is.
The j pouch is a wonderfull thing for me,it is different from what i was like before, but i,m alive and living life to the max.I see many things are similar with a jpouch when I look at the issues people have here, things like diet and medications I use are very close to each other,I also see probiotics are important to,as they are with pouchers.
I hope it,s ok for me to post here,if anyone has any questions about a pouch or what the surgery was like feel free to email me I would be more happy to answer any questions
                     Thanks everyone

Of course you are welome here! I have had a j-pouch for 7 years and have not regretted the decision. If you are interested in meeting more jpouchers I recommend you visit www.j-pouch.org There are over 6000 registered jpouchers on that site and are full of valuable support and experience.

I had my surgery done at USC in Los Angeles. I was back to work full time 3 weeks after surgery but most people are out of work for about 6 weeks. Full recovery was a year, but that's not a year of lounging on the couch. It's a matter of the new plumbing adjusting.

I was done at Mount Sini hospital In Toronto Canada, since I suffered from toxic mega colon my recovery was about 3 to 4 months at home,I needed time to put some beef on as I lost a massive amont of weight in a very short time span,it was at least a year of adjusting, but not difficult at all,I had all the normal issues to deal with, right now I take codine 3 times aday to slow my gut down, and it,s working fine,I was never on any hard drugs like prednizone,I am very lucky for that.right now I may go to the washroom about 6 times in the day and 1 or 2 times at night, that all depends on if I eat late to.

I have been so frustrated lately with my UC that I am considering asking my Dr about a J pouch. I am tired of the urgencies & not being able to do what I want to do if fear of the urgencies. I am tired of my life being dictated by my colon
Asacol 6 tablets twice daily
Remicade every 8 weeks
Folid Acid daily
Methotrexate 3 times a week

Thanks, the reason I ask is not that I'm having any poblems, but just checking things out just in case. I drive a truck over the road and was just wondering if I ever got this would I have to wait a longer period of time before I went back to work. My truck bounces a lot and was just wondering.
