The eternal question, which sadly is different for a lot of people. There are lots of threads on this topic so you should find some common bad things quickly.

I tend to stay away from raw fruit, raw veggies, ALL dairy, refined sugars, wheat, caffiene.

Current Prescriptions:

40 mg 30 mg Prednisone per day, 1 x per day
1000 mg Sulfasalazine, 4x per day
1 Mesalamine Enema per day

Thank you for your advice. I know i cant eat lettuce, corn, seeds and such, things ive had problems with in the past. But this flare has been different, it seems everything is going right through me. Do you think exercise plays a role in your healing? I use to work out but stopped with the flare.

It absolutely does for me. Even when I'm tired I make myself go for walks every night before going to bed. I know those endorphins have helped with my healing process. I had a (couple) of brownies at lunch today and I can feel it burning in my lower GI. Stupid me. eyes

I asked the same question not too long ago on here      and someone suggested BABY FOOD!!   Believe it or not it has worked for me really well!!   I highly recommend it!!  I also try to stay away from solid foods or at least keep it to a minimum

I definitely dont eat corn, dairy or fried stuff.. no spicy stuff either
Had stomach problems whole life.. on and off. Could never figure out what it was or why it was going on. about a year and a half ago I went to the dr cuz I was running to the bathroom and it was ruining my life.. my stomach problems were back and wouldn't go away. Went to the reg dr. and he took xrays and I was constipated with D. He referred me to a GI.

After tons of testing and diff. GIs. I had a colonoscopy and it came back as IBD either Crohns or UC... they couldn't decide. I took a dye test and they ruled it as UC because they said Crohns always comes up on it and it didn't.

Finally diagnosed with UC March 07

Initially put on Colazal.. it didn't really work. Was never really symptom free.. so I guess a ongoing flare for a year and a half?

Just got over a HORRIBLE flare up and was put on pred and lialda... Seems to be working.

Medications: Colazal 3 3x a day

Started taking Prednisone- 40mg and Lialda- 2 a day both in the morning one time only on 10/30/07 Haven't started tapering yet.

Gee thanks for all of the advice and info. My gi was supposed to call me in Lialda today and the pharmacy said he never did. Im really sick right now with diarrhea, blood and horrible abdominal pain. My mom wants me to go to the hospital but im not. Tomorrow im gonna do my pilates video and fast or eat baby food. I think my colon needs a rest for now. Is it good to dring gatorade? I know it has alot of sugar. I need to keep my potassium level up and electrolytes too. Had problems with that in the past and ended up in the hospital. Bananas are good right? What about beverages? Just water? Thanks again.

its all so different for everyone with the whole food thing. dont eat what really hurts.. its all trial and error.

but if its any help at all, this whole year long flare, i was running to the toilet 13-23 times a day. nights are worse.
and there has been pain the whole time. ive been on oxycontins since march for the pain.

i don't think it has anything to do with actual food or eating. I think its just the disease. u go and go and go and go like the freakin energizer bunner.

man i wish my toilet had handle bars. lol

i FINALLLY, for the last 3 weeks have had no colitis symptoms (since the 7 day hospital stay) and the last 2 days there has been blood and cramping. not a lot, but enough to make me a little depressed since i was going so good. but i am going to say that i hope it is cuz of the poppy seed bagels i ate the last 2 days. its the only thing i did different and the time coincides.. so im hoping that is what aggrivated my tender colon. please please cross your fingers that its not getting worse after doing so well.... so i guess SEEDS ARE BAD for me.

I just flared up too just recently and started on Rowasa (made sure it was Rowasa, didn't want to chance it after I read some horror stories). So far I haven't seen much improvement yet this is my second night with Rowasa on top of my Lialda. I made the mistake of putting milk in my cereal, think I paid for it dearly still flaring like crazy whatever you do while flare ups stay away from dairy...it sure kicks my butt.
Lialda - 1x
Rowasa 1x (for spot treating and flare ups)
Centrul Multi-vitamin 1
Lexipro- 1 10Mg
AMbien 1 10mg

I'm not sure if im doing this correct or not, but please bare with me if i'm not. I was just dx with uc i think pancolitis on Oct 3 and was admitted to the hopsital for a week. I have been have this right sided pain for about 6 months now and all my docs said it was ovaryian cyst and give me meds and sent me home. Well any while i was in the hopsital my GI doc did a sigmoscopy and couldnt do all of my colon becuase of the inflamaion. So I went back to my GI doc on Wed 7 and he said that my colits has been there for a while, and he wanted to go in and do another colosconpy. I asked him would this ever go away and he really wouldnt give me a straight answer, but he did say it was a mild case and put me on xanax .25 mg 2 x day and asacol 400 mg 2 x 2 times a day.

If there is any advice from anyone I would greatly appreicate it.
