Is anyone on a liquid diet? Even when I am not flaring I have urgency issues. It seems like the only time I feel relatively safe is when I drink an ensure or a yogurt smoothie. This is great because I need to lose about 70lbs. The only problem I have now is when I get home I (of course) am hungry and have been binging, which sends me straight to the bathroom, but I feel safer because I am at home and can make it to a toilet. I have so many cravings and would like to balance my self to some small meals per day. Does anyone have any suggestions for my cravings because really the more I eat the worst it is for me with regard to the colitis and my weight. I just want a balance. Its hard to lose weight because I used to be able to do it by eating salads and fruits which are a pretty big no no for me now.I am so tired of this disease. I sometimes feel so stuck but I know, I just know that there has to be a way to balance my self out. Find out what works what's best for me. Be healthy thinner and have less urgency. Any suggestions would be appreciated.

Thanks,
MJW

Boy can i relate! Im in a really bad flare right now so im off of work and not able to eat. Ive gained weight myself, and for the same reason! I wont eat at work cause im afraid ill have an accident but once i get home im so hungry i binge because i know im near a bathroom. I hate this disease with a passion! I had no life other than work before and now i cant even make it to work! Im gonna try baby food to make it through this flare. After that i dont know what ill do. Urgency is always a problem for me too! Sorry im not much help! But i can sure relate to what your going through!Sounds just like my daily life story!

I like the baby food idea!!!! I hadn't thought of that before. Thank you for posting. I appreciate your empathy and you did just give me an idea to try. Good luck yourself. I just went to the store and bought some nicotine patches. I used to be a smoker and my UC has gotten worse since I quit so I am hoping maybe this will help with flares and cravings. Worse case senerio is I start vomiting I guess. That is why I am trying it on the weekend. I feel like I've just got to keep trying things , until something works or I exhaust myself.

ugh, liquid diet.  i was just on a liquid diet in the hospital for 7 days. this year long flare sucks ass and i had to go in to hospital 2 weeks ago it got so bad.  i lost so much weight in there i got down to 100lbs.  im now 108 2 weeks later.

about 6 months ago (still during flare of course) i saw a dietician and we spent over 3 months on all different types of diets.

-liquid diet

-no residue diet

-no fiber diet

-low residue/low fiber diet

-protein diet

-fruit and veg diet

-just those resource drinks and ensure and sustagen...

i tell ya what, none of them gave any relief or helped out.

so now, i eat anything and everything i want unless it hurts ... which from the last 2 days i have just figured out seeds are bad.  i had poppy seed bagels last 2 days and the blood came back.

the last 2 weeks i have had no colitis symptoms at all until the last 2 days. im hoping that it is the seeds rather than the flare starting up again now that i had gotten it under control FINALLY!

im on 50mg of prednisone a day and it is taking its toll!  i dont feel like a person anymore. and i am so moody and mean and quick to get angry. i just feel down in the dumps.. not to mention that i can't sleep.  jeez that sucks.

been getting a lot of art done tho.

anyhoo... diets.. i guess its all about how it makes YOU feel in the end. cuz everyone is different!

It's different for everyone, you'll have to play around and find what works best for YOU...but GI's will often recommend a liquid diet for a short period of time to give your bowels a rest when you're really bad off.
