Good Morning!  I started on 800mg. Asacol 3x a day, a week ago.  My biggest problem so far is the stomach upset/pain. Does anyone have any suggestions to combat this?  I'm barely existing on crackers, ensures, and yogurt  My loss of appetite has gotten worse since starting this stuff.  It's too soon to tell if it will help the UC or not, I know this, & I'm trying to avoid steroids if at all possible.  But this stomach upset is bad.  Does this side effect get better as we adjust to them?  Or should I try something else?  It's true I need to lose some weight, and  I am, but this isn't a healthy way to do this...HELP!!!

I would eat something for sure. I know yogurt messes with me while flaring or not.
You should try to eat something more solid too imo. Try a PBJ sandwhich. I like those but the PB might mess with ya if you aren't used to it.
Presciptions:
2400mg of Asacol daily = (6) 400mg pills)
30mg of Prednisone daily = (3) 10mg pills)

Supplements:
Pro-Bio
fish oil
multi-vitamin
additional calcium & vitamin D
Bi-Flex (joint support)
creatine
protein bars / powders
BCAA's
No-Xplode

started Prednisone & Asacol on Thursday 10-4-2007

I know it's hard for you to eat a lot right now (I've been there). But I know I have to take my asacol with food or I do get an upset stomach. Asacol has worked wonders for me, I have responded well. Keep in contact with  your doctor, or at least their nurse. I hope you start to feel a little better soon.

Diagnosed with UC January 2007
Responding well to Asacol 2 pills 3 times per day
Asacol upped to 12 per day until the flare is under control - starting to tapper 1 pill per week
Canasa added nightly until the flare is under control

thank you..tried eating with, and when upset stomach hits an hour or two later...I was just tossing idea to go back to doc & get new gi specialist I can communicate with better. I think I'll quit talking myself out of it & do it. It's tough switching docs you have to start over, and I've got years of history to cover...
