Hi all,
It is 3:20 am here and I just finished a horrible round of explosive diarrhea for about the 10th day in a row. There is NO blood. It hurts just as bad if not worse than when I have colitis though. It has been happening in the mornings mostly around 8 or 9 am when I wake up, and I am really scared.
The last colonoscopy I had 3 months ago when I was in a flare, there was my normal area of inflammation, a clear spot, and more inflammation (meaning it spread farther than usual). My GI said he thought I might have Crohn's, but it was possible the clear spot could have been due to the steroids I was taking at the time. Could this be a sign I have Crohn's?
Almost 2 weeks back I started feeling crampy and nauseaus on occasion. I thought at first I was constipated, so I took some Correctol. That didn't seem to kick in for about 3 days. I finally went to my family doctor on Monday, who was stumped, and he gave me Cipro and Norco for pain. The Cipro killed my stomach so I stopped after 3 days, and I have to take so much of the Norco during the day just for normal activities I am going to run out soon, and my GI won't be able to see me for weeks. Strange thing is, I don't have to have any BM's all day, until I go to bed and I have been waking up in the morning like this - although throughout the day I am hit with intermittent painful horrible gas and I have to lie down from the pain.
This is the first morning I have awoken so early, and the pain was so bad that I threw up the pain pill I took. I managed to keep another one down, so here I am an hour later. I am so scared, and I woke my BF to let him know I was driving myself to the ER, but he convinced me not to go, he doesn't think there's anything they can do...
OK sorry for the long detailed report but I'm hoping maybe some of this sounds familiar to anyone? Any suggestions? Thanks in advance ....

i have had some super horrible pain the last 2 days. i was in hospital for severe left side flare and for 2 1/2 weeks i was good to go. no colitis symptoms at all.
now the last few days i have bad pain in my gut. there is no blood.
it feels like gas or something in there and its hurting my colon.
same thing as you, a bit worse and a little different than my normal colitis pain and the no blood thing is throwing me off.

i sit on the can and nothing really happens. i only have 1 or 2 bm's a day now.
there was some blood yesterday but not today.
i just took a an oxycontin.
dont know if it will help.

could it be gas or just poo's in there? i don't know... but i feel ya.

and just to let you know, for about 5 months of my flare, until 2 weeks ago actually, i threw up at least once a day when i went to the toilet because the pain was so bad. (i've lost 40lbs this last year from that)

you might want to call the hospital or a nurse to see if you need to go in before you go to see what they think. i ended up in the hospital for 7 days getting dosed up on steroids and hydrocortisone to get it under control.
i called my doctor and told him i couldnt move, etc... and he booked me in.

i dont know if this info helped, but i feel im in the same boat as you right now

AJ - My advice would be to go to your GI. Family doctors may be great for certain things, but I am convinced that UC is beyond their scope. I'm a bit confused as to why you were given Cipro for pain... as I thought that was an antibiotic given for bacterial infections such as a urinary tract infection. If your GI won't see you immediately, I would get yourself to the hospital. It sounds like these are new symptoms for you, and it could be any number of issues causing them.
Current Medications:
- Asacol (4 pills, 2x per day)
- Rowasa (1 enema daily, as needed)
- Folic Acid (1 mg, 1x per day)
- Calcium (600 mg, 2x per day)
- Prenatal Vitamin (1x per day)

Hi..are you not on any other meds at all?.....any 5ASA meds? I would suggest you start a rectal med....sometimes the rectal inflammation can cause more pains than when having diarrhea. I prefer diarrhea than formed or loose stools when flaring.

Call your GI back and beg for an appointment.

The narcotic pain killer will cause you to have constipation...which can also cause you some discomfort. Have you tried any antispasmodics instead? Maybe try does come in 10mg and 20mg...but at least it'll help relieve some of the spasming.

Keep us posted.
