Saw some mucous in my stool today. No pain, blood, etc. I typically don't see mucous ever. Well I should also say I started having solid bms a couple of weeks ago so they are definitely easier to visually examine. Not sure what to do and I am trying not to stress. I do have a couple of Canasa. If I see more as the day goes on I will go ahead and use one tonight.

I have added more fiber to my diet. Would that matter at all? That is really the only thing I have changed. Thanks guys!!!

Could the mucous be from your IBS? I hear that people with IBS have larger quantities of mucous then normal.

I'm also "supposed" to get my period tomorrow. I'm still about 2 for the last 22 months. Maybe the IBS. Ugh...I just don't know!

I personally wouldn't worry about a little mucous only  because it never really indicated worse things to come for me.  I see it every so often.  It would appear one day, be gone the next.  I wouldn't worry too much, unless it's an ongoing thing and doesn't disappear on its own in a short time period.

My Gi said he isn't worried about mucous so much and that everbody gets it, even withoug UC, they just don't notice. I'll agree with the crowd, just keep your eyes open and try not to worry.

I have gotten a lot of mucous without a flare starting.  When I do see it, I get a lot of sleep and eat very healthy.  No sweets, junk food, milk, limited carbs.

I, too, notice mucus on occasion, but it rarely leads to a flare-up for me. I wouldn't overreacted at this point and would just keep an eye on it for another day or two. If it continues or gets worse, or you get other symptoms, then it's time to worry.

I find it very hard to "unlearn" the panic response to any lower GI change-- so it doesn't surprise me at all that you ask this question. Pain & bm frequency are probably the key indicators when another flare is brewing, though. So take a deep breath & tell yourself "No way! I'm on top of it!" / Old Hat (nearly 30 yrs with left-sided UC ... [etc.])

Tabitha...excessive mucus means a change in bowel activity....even if it's ibs from stress or from food you've eaten or from the hormonal changes (which is most likely).

The fact is that you have UC, you're going to start your period and you see mucus. I'd say use the Canasa for at least 3 - 4 nights into your period..starting now...as a prevention to keep the rectum nice and quiet.

It won't hurt for you to use them...and I commend your observation.

One bout of mucus on stool...or continual...if it wasn't your period I'd say let it slide (pun) unless it got worse..

My take on it.

Yup I agree with all of the above....I wouldn't worry if it's just a little especially if for the most part everything eles is still improved....STUPID PERIODS, then again, I'm sure once I hit menopause I won't be too impressed with that either.

:)
