HHaving had bloody diarhoea for 7 weeks and now after colonoscopy and medication( for 2 weeks) and new diet,( for 5 days), my husband is having completely formed stool ( since wednesday)with still a tiny amount of blood BUT every 2 hours at night and about 90 mins in the daytime. I have to say these activities are simply exhausting for him.
I am so excited by formed stool but he is discouraged by frequency and urgency. I beleive the formed stool is a wonderful first step and shaping timing may come after? Can someone offer encouragement or your experience whlil healing?
Thanks in advance....

Boy, do I know what he is going through.  Sounds like my first flare.  My first sign of healing was more solid stools, decreased blood, then the decrease in frequency but they did start in quite quick procession.

Dx:  2006

Meds:  None so far. Garlic works to ease flares. My GI laughed when I told him and said it was just coincidence.

Diet:  Regular fresh garlic, Biobest yogurt daily, Omega 3 supplements, very limited junk food, carbs and processed food, low fat diet.  Lots of fresh fruit and veggies (limited potatoes).

Added: tumeric and probiotics.

It does take a while to heal.  It actually took me over 2 months for the bleeding to stop with my first flare, and now, 1.5 years later, I still have urgency and pain (though I'm sloooowly getting better).  Everybody heals at a different rate and sounds like he's doing well.  Just give it time, and the frequency/urgency should take care of itself once the rectal area of the colon isn't as inflamed/ulcerated.

It could be partly because of the metamucil now that things are starting to heal higher in the colon.

I'd say stick with the med regimen anyway...

He could call the doctor and see if he could get a script of dicyclomine to ease some of the spasming in the bowel and for it to maybe relearn that stool in the colon at any time doesn't need to be expelled quickly.

it's great he's healing...
