Hey. I gave your post a topic in hopes you get more responses. For some reason it deleted your emotion icon. Sorry! Thanks!

I have low back pain and rectal pressure/pain when I'm flaring, even though my UC is just on the left side. I attribute it to the inflammation. The colon swells and pulls on the membranes that anchor it in place, and I think this is what causes the back pain. Back pain is one of my first warnings that I need to mend my ways because I may be starting to have a flare. The rectal pain I think is just from the inflammation. That's the first place to flare and the last place to heal. If you aren't using any rectal meds, you may want to ask your doctor about mesalamine enemas to help with the rectal inflammation.

My physical therapist showed me how to relieve the back pain, so you might consider asking your doc for a PT order for evaluation.

Good luck with your C-scope, and I hope you feel better soon.
Moderate to severe left-sided UC diagnosed 2001.
Current meds are Colazal, Azathioprine and Remicade. Completely off steroids for more than a year now! In remission since April, 2006. Remicade has been my wonder drug.
Now tapering Azathioprine, please pray for me.

Pancolitis means the entire colon is involved, so that could certainly include rectal pain. You could have hemmorhoids or anal fisures.

Inflammation of the SI joints of the lower spine in relation to general abdominal inflammation of UC can cause lower back pain and is not uncommon.
Diagnosed with ulcerative colitis spring 1999
Therapeutic dose sulfasalazine, back on a pred taper for first flare in years. Down to 10 mg and feeling much better.
Probiotics, l-glutamine and fish oil caps. George's aloe vera juice and Mucosaheal.

4M2K....The rectum will be the worst place for inflammation...regardless how high it extends to. Remember...UC starts at the will always be inflamed during a flare.

So...rectal meds will help get the inflammation down. The'yre a MUST for UCers.

You're also on a very low dosage of should be upped at least to 6 or 8 daily. They can be taken twice if you can't fit in more than that, it's helpful to take them times when you won't have a tendency to forget (such as mid day).

You could have the above mentioned of hemorrhoids or a fissure....but with what you're's typical of flaring. Although...nothing like adding more to an already ailing butt.
