This is typically how a flare goes for me. I don't get much D... my stool is usually formed... but I know I'm flaring when I see blood and mucus. I rarely have pain either.
Current Medications:
- Asacol (4 pills, 2x per day)
- Rowasa (1 enema daily, as needed)
- Folic Acid (1 mg, 1x per day)
- Calcium (600 mg, 2x per day)
- Prenatal Vitamin (1x per day)

I would say that 50% of my flares are like this, maybe even more.  The flare that I am in now started out that way and yesterday I started to get cramps, but the bleeding is going away.  It is so weird!

Best Wishes,

I have had those kind of flares when I did not take all my meds, then I would be good and take all my meds and go back to normal. Not saying that is the case w/you. Maybe look at upping your meds?

First I get gassy..I mean, really loud obnoxious farts that actually make me laugh. I blame the dog, but no one believes me anymore, mostly because I'm laughing, but after that phase, it stops being funny and I start with the mucous. It's really a nusiance actually because when I need to release gas, it's often a tense moment wondering whether I'm going to decorate my shorts or not, and it's not really practical running to the bathroom on a "just in case" basis every time you need to cut the cheese. It's really just small amounts of blood and mucous lately when I flare. I don't get cramps or feel ill either. Maybe it's because I get right to the doc at the first signs of a flare and get on meds that the flares haven't gotten any worse, because i have had much worse flares many years ago.. I just learned that once you flare, at least for me, they do not go away without treatment, and the longer I wait before getting treatment, the longer it wil take to go away.. NIP IT IN THE BUD!

Reading through posts on this forum and on others, I always remind myself when I start feeling bummed-out, that there are people out there with this condition so much worse than me...I really don't have anything to complain about next to what I have read that some of you have been through. My heart goes out..

I get gas and cramps first, if I go off my diet. Then, I start getting fairly solid white mucus, then finally blood.

Lori...inflammation starts at the rectum and continues upward...no matter how high your UC goes be it throughout or limited. Those are usually the symptoms that many ignore until it gets much worse. Those are the symptoms you should be treating asap so that it doesn't get worse.

Bleeding isn't usually a first symptom....but it's definitely one many can't then ignore. The mucosa will be very fragile to the point of bleeding...please start rectal meds...

What were your symptoms before the bleeding started? can you look back and recognise them?
