On Thanksgiving my family and I were talking about our phobias and it just got me wondering!
Now my is pretty strange. For a long as I can remember I have been deathly afraid of styrofoam. If someone even opens up a package, I have to leave the room or I'll vomit! I know its not an actual "phobia" but it better! tongue
Let me know! I'm curious!!

I'm not sure if mine is a phobia or not but I get very very agitated when I'm running late for anything. I'm highly neurotic about being punctual. Other then that, no phobia really.

mine is a compulsive disorder also. I check to make sure my stove is turned off 100 times a day seems that many anyway. I know its off but I still have to check and make sure. it drives me crazy. And I will get out of bed 3 or 4 times a night to check and make sure the door is locked. I am crazy I think. and I hate elevators.

I have emetophobia - the fear of vomiting.  I can't stand to see anyone vomit.  I get very fearful if I hear of the "stomach flu" going around.  I'm so afraid I will get it and vomit.  I've always been this way.  When I was at school as a child, I nearly went out of my mind if another student in the class threw up.  It happened every year.

I'm afraid of the dark. I'm 23 and I still sleep with a night light. If I'm in a pitch black room I hyperventilate; it happened once in high school when there was a black out. not fun.

I'm also afraid of hairy spiders. No hair, I'm fine. If there's hair on it I freak out. Worst case was there was a wolf spider in my bedroom when i was about 14 and i jumped on my bed and screamed for my parents for an hour before they heard me.

And i know no one likes shots or getting blood taken, but the mere thought of it makes me feel sick, and it gives me the willies, like there's bugs all over my arms. I have a hard time even talking about needles without shaking. yuck.

I've always been a little claustrophobic, but it's way worse after three MRI's in the past two years. I can't even watch TV shows where someone is buried alive or in a narrow tunnel. The last MRI I freaked out even with Zanax, was barely able to finish it.

I'm afraid of papercuts. I flinch when papers are being passed around. My husband likes to chase me with paper cause i run the other way. Oddly I was an english major who loves to read and am now a teacher dealing with handing out papers everyday. I guess it's good I face my fears but I have never met anyone else afraid of paper. As my husband says...gptta pick your crazy and stick with it.

Now that I have a kid, I have many phobias (if that is what you call them).

I have a phobia of cruise ships....falling overboard and never being seen again. But here's the weird part....It's not me that I'm freaked about falling overboard, it's my DH or worse yet my DD. I nearly freaked out when I saw my DH looking over the rail. I was sure a gust of wind was gonna sweep him and his 300 pounds overboard....LOL.

The mere thought of bringing DD on a cruise makes me sick to my stomach and I make myself cry over her falling overboard. She's never even been on a ship and I can't bring myself to doing a Disney cruise ship either. My hair is standing up just thinking about it.

Trixy :)

I think that falls more along the lines of naturing paranoia, especially where kids are involved...before having kids I really didn't have to worry about anyone other than myself and after having kids the paranoia of mothering trickles down to other family member (hubbies, aging parents and such)...this can be very stressful but I believe it goes with the territory unfortunately because I was completely carefree before ever having kids.

Bee's, I am not allergic I am just freakishly afraid. My last incident I was picking up some pizza's and noticed a bee on my shoulder and threw the pizza's on the ground and tore off my cardigan (had a shell underneath it) and proceded to wildly beat myself and dance around like a lunatic.

Anytime I have stood and done nothing I get stung. Also horsefly's love me (they are at the beach in NH sometimes in the summer) and they only bite me and they bite really hard, and do not bite my friends. I must be pretty tasty!

PB4 - well at least we are not alone! So, they have a name for it? Does it get better as they get older, or is it worse, or just different?

I have a friend who is deathly afraid of birds...any bird. I would crack up everytime we were together and a bird flew by. She'd litterally duck. LOL

Trixy I think it depends...my kids are teenagers now, daughter will be 18 in January and to be honest I'm really looking forward to her being fully independant...so possibly once you go through the teenage yrs it can change the naturing paranoia a little...or alot depending on how annoying you find your teenager(s) to be.

Add me to the emetophobia list, too.

I totally hate styrofoam, but not what I'd call phobic of it.

I also have the mothering paranoia, and it certainly doesn't help the two of my 3 kids have UC.

Other than that, I'm pretty well balanced ;-)
