Hi guys,it's been awhile...but thats GOOD,right? LOL...
I have been in remission with my UC for about 8 monthes or so,since I got out of the ICU last Spring for colon troubles. Everything has been going good. In about the last 2 weeks I started noticing a funny feeling in my upper butt crack,it hurt. As time goes and I pay more attention to it I realize it's like some sort of rectal discharge and it leaks up my crack and stays at the very top...this causes it to be super red and VERY painful. I have to be careful how I sit because it HURTS! With bathing or wiping after "going" I have to be very careful...it hurts,etc...I dont have any anal sex or any fetish with my rectum...so it's not "leaking" or hurting from me doing anything to it. I have read some online and they mention Ulcerative Colitis and Proctitis...which I have both. So OK that makes OK sense. But this has never been a problem before and I have had these for 5+ yrs now. Has anyone here ever experienced this? What can be done to help, should I see my Dr? This is just moreso embarrassing then saying I poop out blood....now I have "discharge"...I just dont know what to do. Someone please tell me I'm not alone...and point me in the direction to be healed from this!

OMG nichole (long time no see BTW) you best get to your GI, sounds to me like a fistula/abcess and that goes hand in hand with crohns, not UC...I don't want to scare you but what you're describing isn't right so please get it checked out ASAP.

Great to hear you had been doing well for so long Nichole, but your newest symptom is definitely a fistula (caused by an abcess ... lead from somewhere).

Although people who don't have IBD can get fistulas, it's sometimes found in UCers, but it's definitely more of a "symptomatic factor" of CD.

I have a friend with fistulising Crohn's....it took her a while to get diagnosed even though they were obvious. Some doctors can't see for looking it seems.

Do as pb4 says....don't wait to get it checked out...deal with it as soon as possible. Please let us know the outcome.

I had this similar thing back in May. I was in terrible pain when I sat, and it felt like razors when I had a bowel movement. I have had UC for 46 years having been diagnosed when I was fifteen and I am now 62. In fact I have had it so long, some people don't believe I "REALLY " have IBD because I have had a more mild case for the last 20 years (but I spent a month in the hospiatl when diagnosed and was on prednisone for years).

Anyway, I had never in all those years had that kind of pain in the rectum. So I went to my GI. He checked for a fistuala and for hemorrhoids (which I had but they were small).
So he gave me pain meds and recommendations:
I take Collace stool softener twice daily. I also take Metamucil along with my regular meds of Azulfadine. I got up early enough so after my first BM I took a hot bath with Ivory soap in the tub, rubbing the soap so that the water got grayish. I would sit for 20 minutes laying back in the tub with knees up. I did this at least three times a day....morning, after work and before bed. I bought a donut to sit on and used a lot of Desitin. It took about six weeks but finally the pain eased. By 8 weeks, totally gone and so far has not returned.

I still don't know what it was. But even when I touched there with a hot compress, the slightest pressure was painful.

Whatever it is for you, I hope you can ease the pain.

Asulfadine (500mg tablets, 6 daily)
Folic Acid
Zantac as needed

Jjc :)

Any time you have the feeling of razors or papercuts that's an indication of fissures...usually tiny but sometimes large enough to require surgery, tears in the anal tissues...most often caused by frequent D and wiping combination.

For sure...I tear the one little fissure I have open every few days or so...excessive wiping is definitely why. I don't put on cortisone or zinc as often as I should because I feel NO discomfort from it except when the external hemmorhoid wants to join in on the fun.

Nichole.. Awesome you got in quickly with your doctor. I hope it's small and can be dealt with quickly.

Jjc....it sounds as though you had a fissure...if it does happen again, even slightly...you can purchase sitz bath "bowls" that can be put on the toilet. They do work I've heard, but I've not used them.

I guess the best cleaning for many of our butt woes would be a bidet....Wooee!!
