I normally take 6 in the morning and 6 at night, but this week I went back to 4, 4, 4 to see if I spread out my dosage if that would help with this flare (which does seem to be getting better as a result of many things - restricted diet, chiropractic adjustments, etc.).  Anyway, I kinda remember getting out 4 pills, but don't know if that was last night I was thinking of or tonight.  I so don't want to miss a dosage (bad, bad, bad) to avoid going over the maximum, but I also don't want to go over the maximum just in case I did take it.  Normally, I would not take it, but I have neve forgotten while in a flare and the worst thing for me is to not take my full 12 pills a day during a flare.  KWIM?  can you see I'm distraught over this?

What would you do?
Best Wishes,

Me too. But this is why I put all my stuff in one of those weekly medicine containers. If the "Wednesday PM" bin is full, I know I haven't taken my meds.

I don't think anything bad will happen if you take over the max. My GI said that it's only the "max" b/c taking more than that won't help. But I also don't think anything bad will happen if you miss one dose. I've missed doses and haven't had any bad effects from it.

I don't like to take extra pills if I forget a dose. I just skip it. But the couple times I forgot, I went back and counted how many pills were in the bottle and did the math on how many there should be if I took the dose. And that's a big undertaking with our huge Asacol bottles!
I missed a dose of Asacol twice in the last 2 months and then couldn't take it last week due to a stomach flu, and I was fine healthwise each time.
Good luck to ya!

You should just stay with the 6 and 6...it's easier.

My GI once told me that it doesn't matter when and how you take the med but as long as your getting the right dose. However, I don't think he meant to take all pills at once though. I space mine out evenly only because I have a pill organizer, which btw is great! I was forgetting too when I took what and this makes it sooooo much easier!

I agree on the pill organizer. Without it, I would be lost and would have no idea if I have taken my pills or not. It makes me feel like an old lady, but it's worth it.
Current Medications:
- Asacol (4 pills, 2x per day)
- Rowasa (1 enema daily, as needed)
- Folic Acid (1 mg, 1x per day)
- Calcium (600 mg, 2x per day)
- Prenatal Vitamin (1x per day)

I take mine after meals (eat a meal, grab my pill bag and finish my drink). While my son was really sick last week there were definitely 2 nights I missed all meds.

no, one dose shouldn't matter....but a continued missed dose does.

The pill organisers are great....I use them for my AM and PM vitamins/supplements as well.

My Dr said that recent studies show that Salofalk (Asacol) will probably work the same for you if you divide it into two daily doses. I currently take 2 tablets 4 times a day and he said that taking 4 tablets twice a day would likely work just as well. I haven't tried this yet as I'm in a groove with my current dosage - too hard to change my habits now!

However, what I did take from this is that now, if I happen to miss a dose (very rare), I just double up on the next dose. But I'd probably only miss 1 individual dose a fortnight (absolute worst case) so it probably isn't a big deal either way.
Left Sided UC
Salofalk tablets (Asacol) 2 tablets 4 times daily (4gm total) for maintenance, Salofalk enemas and/or Colifoam for flares
Oat bran 60grams daily, Metamuscil and multivitamins
