Hello everyone!  I've had colonoscopy tests, and the Trylite prep several times, but am always interested in hearing any advice for making it go down easier?  I have to start the "special cocktail", as i like to call it, this evening.  I keep it cold, drink through a straw while covering the top of the glass so I cannot smell it, found that chasing it with sprite or 7up works for me, and that's about it.  I liked the lime flavor pack last time, but realized that it did not come with lime once i got it home...so i used orage.  we'll see how i like it.
Any more tips, tricks, advice...to get this stuff down quicker, and less painful?

thanks!!

Hi Jenn,

I see you didn't get any response. Hope all went well. I use Crystal lite lemonade mix and pour in lots. Also ask for the 1/2 gallon size. Some doctors just won't "get with it". I start throwing up that "gunk" after I hit the 1/2 way mark. There's also a pill only form of prep but I can't take it because of being diabetic.

Jenn,

Sorry for the lack of replies, I wish I had seen this sooner!
The only thing I ever find that helps me is pretty much doing what you do. NEVER mix a liquid prep with another type of liquid drink because it makes twice as much to drink and almost never makes it taste better. In fact, once I mixed a Fleet prep with my favorite gatorade, and now I can't drink that flavor anymore without feeling sick :(

I usually either drink it quick through a straw while plugging my nose, or take it like shots of alcohol, and always have something to chase it with. That's the part I always hated about the barium tests... it tastes terrible and you're not allowed to chase it with anything!

Should also be on supplements and probiotics and other UC drugs but I'm just not good at taking pills...

my first experience with the lemon-lime (YUK) was completely differrent the 2nd time with Tri-Lite Cherry.  I just mixed the entire cherry with the gallon ( left it over night and keep shaking it) and found it much more tolerable.  I made sure I used a small glass for each 8 ounces, and chugged it in 2 parts, taking a breath bewteen.  It was about 10 times easier the 2nd time, I guess because of the flavor and the mental mindset I was in.  I didn't chase it with anything, I just swished water in my mouth right away to get the taste out.  I know it can be rough but I found the mind-set and just taking it one glass at a time will get you through it.

Reward yourself with your favorite food after the proceedure and you are alert that night.  It gives you something to look forward to and to think about during the prep.

I just had a colonoscopy on Tuesday.  I did the Fleets.  I have done the Fleets many times as well but always mixed it with something.  YUK!  This time I did it like a shot.  I took the 1 1/2 ounces and drank that down, followed by a slice of lemon in the mouth.  Quickly followed by cold, cold, water.  Also, I put the Fleets in the freezer for about an hour and that helped too!  This worked great this time and won't hesitate to do this again.
