I know I should post this query on another forum but it's just that the people here are so intelligent and helpful.....and more numerous!
Has anyone had problems with oral thrush and what are the symptoms? Does it heighten your gag reflex at all and maybe give you a disgust towards food even though your stomach is hungry.
PS: I got the fungal infection from antibiotics
1600 mg Asacol + 500mg suppositories as needed
No Stress and a positive attitude (mostly!)
My colon appears to be acting somewhat normal (ssssshhhhh...don't jinx it)

I on occasion get oral thrush from my steroid inhaler for asthma. I can say that my throat can get a bit sore if I have it. If your throat is sore and with a yeast overgrowth, it can cause a gagging feeling I would think...something is in there, more mucus would be produced and it would feel as though you can't swallow properly.

I would think that if your tongue is affected from the yeast and the tastebuds are "smothered"...food won't taste the same and even offensive or nauseating.

It's also possible that you have reflux as well that will give a gagging feeling and the taste of stomach acid will change the perception of food.

For the yeast in my throat, I have a script for Nystatin drops. I use them only when I need....

I also gargle with grapefruit seed extract (which also has oregano leaf extract)...dropper full of the liquid in a glass of warm water.
When I swish it through my mouth, it will definitely change the perception of food tastes...yuck.

So, I would suggest you get a prescription of Nystatin and use it faithfully until the infection is gone, then maybe gargle with what I use and that should help keep it clear in your mouth. I have on occasion swallowed a teeny bit of that stuff, and it could surely make me want to vomit...so gagging on the taste alone keeps my throat nicely closed...ugh!..lol!

There's no way I could resist answering based on your opening sentence ;-)

I currently have thrush from prednisone.  Using nystatin to get rid of it, which worked great the last time I had it as well.  Worst symptom to me is, as you mentioned, how the taste of food changes.  Nothing really tastes good while I have candida.  Also doesn't look too good appearance-wise if it makes it's way across your whole tongue.
