I started mu annual flare this October, and was actually winning the battle this time around. I came prepared with supplements, meds, and a product my holistic doc gave me, and it worked! I was so excited! Then I got the 24 / 48 hour flu last Sunday and was left with a moderate to severe flare. Is this mainly because you can't hold anything in and, therefore, your meds can't do their thing? How do you guys get back on track after something like this. What can I do besides getting back on my med/supp regimen?

Thanks

Are you having watery D? If so, that's likely viral effect. Try the BRAT diet & ease yourself back to solid meals from the rice, low-fiber toast, to broth, farina, noodles, etc. The main struggle is to slow down the GI tract to prevent dehydration & absorb the necessary nutrients. Limit juices & acidic foods & spices 'til it calms down. Are you using Rowasa in addition to oral med? I'm just wondering from your signature if you gave up on them entirely. Good luck at getting things back under control ASAP! / Old Hat (nearly 30 yrs with left-sided UC; currently on 3 Colazal daily; seem to be back in remission)

Well, I ate a ton the night I got the virus (was feeling fine). So by the time I was emptied out, it was gone and the flare was kicking strong. It pretty much went from formed to the typical blood/mucous mix in an afternoon. How does this happen so fast? Now I am 6-7 a day, lots of blood, mucous and pain.

Are you sure you had the flu and not food poisoning? If it was something you ate and it was tainted, that could explain why you had such a violent reaction.

It was a virus. I had no D or vomiting. Just the weakness, body aching, and slight fever. But boy I need some help now getting back to where I was.

Have you called your GI yet? I would definitely discuss this with your GI. He or she may suggest you up your Asacol dosage and enemas.

You probably already know this, but make sure you get plenty of rest and stay hydrated. I think resting is so important when our bodies our trying to heal.

I hope you feel better soon.
