I am a little confused. Does asacol have acetaminophen in it? I know you are not supposed to have Advil with asacol but acetaminophen is tylenol right? I just got my wisdom teeth removed and I tried to explain the medication that I am on to the dentist but Im not sure if he really paid attention to me. He gave my tylox for the pain which has a warning not to take with other drugs that have acetaminophen in it. Does anyone know if this is okay to take with asacol?

It's okay. I did it for years. Don't double dose the Tylenol.

You could check www.pdrhealth.com to see if there are any interactions with Asacol. Also, it's always good to talk to the pharmacist about everything you are taking. When it comes to pharmacuticals - they usually know!

It's fine to take Tylenol with Asacol. There is not Tylenol in Asacol. And where did you hear that you can't take Advil with Asacol? I've never heard that and there are no warnings that come with my Asacol. Good luck recovering from your wisdom teeth surgery. I remember my mouth was pretty sore afterwards.

Sara14 is correct. Asacol does not contain Acetaminophen. It is perfectly fine to take Tylenol while you are also taking Asacol. The thing with Advil and other Ibuprofen medications is that they are not good for our UC because they can cause GI bleeding. It doesn't have anything to do with interaction with Asacol. You could still take Ibuprofen with Asacol... it's just that Ibuprofen isn't good for us IBDers.
Current Medications:
- Asacol (4 pills, 3x per day)
- Rowasa (1 enema daily, as needed)
- Folic Acid (1 mg, 1x per day)
- Calcium (600 mg, 2x per day)
- Prenatal Vitamin (1x per day)
- Iron (2x per day)

Thank you - I was always one of those people who hate to take medicine unless I have to and since I have UC now my doctor says I really need to get over that. Im always nervous about interactions. This wisdom teeth extraction thing really hurts though.

advil and others don't just cause bleeding in the gi tract. They increase bleeding all around. My sister has had shots in her spine and was told not to take ibprofen for a week before or she couldn't have the shot becuase it would increase the bleeding. Tylenol may not be the best but its not worth the risk to take something else in my opinion.
