Well, new doc is wonderful! & thorough!  I have both proctitis & colitis.  It started in the rectum, has long ago since spread to colon now in 2 spots.  My left & right-sided abdominal pains!!!  We're trying really hard to keep me off steroids as long as possible.  So as you can see by my profile, we've doubled the asacol, and went back to 3 canasa's a day.  I get my probiotics from yogurt with live & active cultures.  He said this was great.  I feel better emotionally  for sure.  Now I can understand what's been going on with my body, both now and all along.  I needed a 2nd opinion as my first c-oscopy was done by a doc who didn't feel the need to write anything down....his own staff couldn't figure out how bad off I was or why I was even in so much pain....idiot!  I'm not done with him either!  I know I'm not nearly as sick as most of you....yet.   But I still feel at home here...ty for being here for all of us.  & Cheers to 2nd opinions!  I'm starting to feel better physically, but slowly.  At least I now know!

Great news Wildfire! I too had to get a second doctor before I was comfortable. The first doc I had seemed to argue about everything (and I'm not the argumentive type!) and only wanted to go in one direction with the meds; and that would be Prednisone. When I finally found my other doc, he listened to me and we agreed on a plan to battle this disease together....he's awesome and even made the top doctor list in Sacramento Magazine this past month! So congrats on finding a new doc and feeling better emotionally and physically; that's what matters most! And...we are glad to have you part of our forum!

It's just such a shame that when you are the most vulnerable, when you are sick, that you sometimes end up with incompetent care. It just adds to the misery of a difficult situation.

Why do these folks become doctors if they are not interested in really helping people? Did they think they would not be dealing with people who would be relying on them for help????

Makes my blood boil.

so is that Imuran a steroid?  I'm just wondering in case this Asacol decides to not work so well, which happens with meds after taking them for awhile...

oh & Sac's best? wow! Very cool! I'm living here in Placerville...love it here! it's such a crap-shoot with these docs entrusted to help & care for us....I'm just thankful now it only took a 2nd opinion to find this doc, and not a 3rd or 4th! I'm glad to be a part of this group too, you all help me alot! I only hope to one day return the favor and make someone else feel better too, even if only emotionally... thnx a million all of you!

Even though the news isn't the greatest, I bet it's good to know WHAT is happening and it's a load off your mind eh?

Imuran and 6mp are immune suppressors not steroids. These meds lower your immune system allowing your body to stop attacking itself which will allow you to heal. These are usually reserved until most meds fail or one has become steroid dependant.
