Is there a test to tell if you have antibodies against Remicade?

I am concerned.  I am supposed to get another double dose infusion on Tuesday.  My GI told me to try it one more time but I may be developing antibodies against it.  I am afraid of what could happen.

HI Adrienne

Are you not on an immuno-suprressent?  My GI told me that it was a pre-requisite to going onto remicade in order to avoid developing antibodies?

KSU, the old wisdom was that you should be on Azathioprine, 6 M-P or equivalent when on Remicade for just this reason. Newer studies have shown no particular benefit to being on both, and some GI's are taking Remi patients off the immunosuppressant drugs.

Kinda makes us feel like lab rats, doesn't it?

I have never taken any immunosuppresants except Remicade. Before startimg the Remicade, I asked him if I should try one of those first, he said no, they take too long and at that time my ulcer was fistulating.

I think the only thing that could happen in terms of developing Remicade antibodies is that it won't work for you.
It's like a flu shot, if you get exposed to the flu, you won't get it (at least not as bad) because you have developed flu antibodies.
If you develop remicade antibodies, when you're exposed to it it won't work for you.

I thought it was a bad idea to be on Imuran and Remicade at the same time?
On their website somewhere it mentioned that people (with Crohn's) seemed more likely to develop a certain type of cancer if they were taking azathioprine and Remicade at the same time.

Scary stuff :(
Female, 22, Ulcerative colitis (pancolitis) since 1999; GERD; gastritis; osteopenia in hip & lumbar region of spine from long term prednisone use

Current Meds:
40 mg Citalopram (for depression/social anxiety)
125mg Imuran

Should also be on supplements and probiotics and other UC drugs but I'm just not good at taking pills...

Not scary for me!! Having UC is scary. My GI wants to ween me off of my 6MP for this reason.(non-Hodgkins Lymphoma) I don't told him I could care less and I'll take my chances. I am not dropping the 6MP. Two years of remission, why mess with that?! There is nothing worse than UC IMO, and if being on Remicade takes 10 years off my life than so be it. I'm not going through another flare if I could help it. I have way to much to lose this time around! I'll take the Lymphoma over UC any day!! yeah
aka. uc veteran

Asacol - four a day
6 MP - 1 tab. a day
Remicade - every eight weeks.

There is a slight increase in lymphomas in people on either 6-MP or Azathioprine and Remicade. The incidence is still very low, but the newest recommendation from the "experts" is to try to come off the immunosuppressant if possible. My doctor gave me the choice, and I'm trying to come off, but if I flare will go back on Azathioprine. I know I have 0% chance of a decent life in flare, so I'll take the tiny chance of lymphoma.

My GI has told me my risk for colon cancer is probably not increased because my UC is limited to the left side. But if he ever finds any sort of dysplasia, my colon will be coming out. I already have a family history of colon cancer.
