My doctor is scheduling me for remicade in 5 weeks. Just had colonoscopy after about all the medicenes nothing worked except prednisone. He just increased my lialda from 2 to 4 pills a day , I have just about weened myself off of prednisone and 2 more days 4mgs a day and no flare ups . Am I being optomistic thinking doubling the lialda will be enough so I will be able to cancel remicade. thanks nervous in florida

I was nervous about the Remicade as well, it's not a big deal. I haven't completely achieved remission on it yet but it has a made a big difference for me so far. Less urgency, no more blood. I am still having trouble tapering off the Prednisone however, but am hopeful that will come with a little more time.

Just remember your immunity will be lower so frequent hand-washing, avoid close crowds ... basic common sense stuff and you should be just fine. The process is painless, those infusion clinic nurses tend to be aces with the needles. Just be sure to bring a book or an iPod or something as it can take up to 3 hours for the procedure.

Meesh, my doc's infusion center has wireless internet available, so I take my laptop with me. I can either work, surf or take a nap while the medicine infuses.

I've been able to get of steroids finally, I hope you'll eventually be able to do that too. Just FYI, I was a lot better after the first three infusions, but I continued to improve slowly for the first year.
