I am a 52 year old woman who is considering having an ablation but am very scared. Can anyone tell me of their experience? I get SVT 2-3times a month and have no symptoms other than feeling a very fast heartbeat but it makes me so nervous. I have to hold my breath to get it to stop which is such a nuisance. I just don't want to end up worse if I decide to have the ablation . I have read there can be complications such as having a pacemaker, bleeding, etc. Plus, the whole ablation procedure sounds frightening. I would appreciate any info regarding your experiences-the more I know, the better off I'll be at deciding whether to do this or not. Thanks!

Hopefully, I & you , can get some answers-  Wotan (Robert)

Dear Wotan,
It's driving me crazy too! I've had to deal with this since the age of 16. I don't have symptoms when it starts up and I can get it to stop myself by holding my breath, but it creates such anxiety for me. Holding my breath for sometimes an hour or more is such a nuisance. If I knew that the ablation would be successful and I'd be fine, I'd do it in a minute but what if I end up worse ?! What is your story?

My ablation was not successful evidently the 'problem' was too deep, I ended up taking amioderone which worked for me with very few of the side effects that can happen. I took it for four years.

Jay,
Thanks for your reply. I have heard that an ablation isn't always successful and at times needs to be repeated. Are you still taking Amioderone? Do you still have problems with SVT?

questions...
