Hi all,
I was diagnosed with MVP 6 years ago.  At that time I was having racing heart, skipped beats, and severe anxiety and panic attacks.  I had all of the tests done and all they came up with was MVP (thank God).  Over the past 6 years my heart concerns have been minimized and my anxiety issues have diminished immensely, until recently.  Last week I was sitting at work and I felt a drumroll in my heart and fainted.  It came out of the blue.  I was brought by ambulance to the ER and the EKG determined MVP.  A follow up appt 2 days later including an additional EKG which determined the same.  This last week I am frequently feeling skipped beats, dizziness, lump in throat, heartburn, hot and cold flashes, etc.  I am currently taking lorazapam to alleviate an anxieties brought on by the symptoms.  I was prescribed inderol if the atrial fibrilations get out of hand, but have not yet taken one.

My questions to you all are:  What are your symptoms?  Are you on meds?  What lifestyle changes help? ....and any other info you can share.

Thanks in advance,

-Soul

Have you looked at nutrition as the answer to your problem?

There ar many conditions of the heart an cardiovascular system that can be fixed by proper nutrition. My wife has a prolapsed mitrovalve and high blood pressure. She also had migranes as do all of her 4 sisters. We cahanged our diet and lifestyle and she has none of the symptoms anymore and no high blood pressue. She takes no medication at all.

Hi,
Well I was diagnosed with MVP about 35 years ago.  My symptoms are all the same as yours---plus chest pain , dizziness, feeling like I'm gonna faint (haven't yet), fatigue----and on....  One of the things that has saved my sanity is this forum.  Sometimes at 3:00 am I can get on the board and read that I am not alone----a real life saver.  Another thing that I found a few years ago was a book called The Mitral Valve Prolapse Syndrome/Dysautonomia Survival Guide.  That too has calmed me down when I feel anxious or out of control. I don't take any meds as I am very fearful of the side effects---but I know that others do and have good results.  I stay away from caffine and try to stay away from sugar ( still working on that one). The only other thing that I'm doing is some acupuncture---I'm not sure if it's helping, but I'm going to try it for awhile.

Hang in there---you are not alone.

Geez, when I read your post I could almost see myself writing it!  I have it, too!  And, it will make you feel like you are going crazy!  I can be so happy go lucky and all of a sudden out of the blue, PLOP and PAUSE there goes my heartbeat!  Then the panic starts and all the other mess...It really is very fearful to me.  I just found this board and I think a lot of mine is anxiety.  I know I have it, but my doc says you can make it "act up" by worrying over it also.  I don't know.. I used to take Torporol and they say it is one of the best for MVP.  But it just made me sooo tired and at the time, my kids were very small and I just could not take it and keep up with all that I had to do for them.  So I stopped taking it.  Now, it's wanting to give me a fit again, so I am just before trying it once more now that they are 17 and 12.  LOL!  I'm still on the road with them all the time, b/c they are very athletic.... but I have to do something before I lose my mind and my life flashes b/f me and I won't know where the time went for all the worrying!  Good Luck to you and remember what the other poster said, you're not alone...this board is better than one on one therapy to me!  and I just found it last weekend!  LOL!

OOPS---sorry....The authors of this book are James and Cheryl Duarte and there is a doc too.  Both or mybe just Cheryl have MVP too so they REALLY know things.  I have read on the internet of other books and this one gets pretty good marks, but it's really SIMPLE and explains a lot.  If you find a better book I'm always interested----but this one has saved my sanity over and over again.  Best of luck to you and let me know what you think.

Shopnmom (great name)---glad you are here.  You will see your self often on this forum.  We do end up "out there" being pretty alone sometimes with one symptom after another...I think we do sometimes sound weird or crazy---but what I have seen here is that we are not alone and we are not making this stuff up!  I hope you find a good medication for you or just some peace with all of this.  I think that's what I want the most is just some peace with my body.  Take care.
