Hi

I havent posted on the sight before.I need to know if anyone else has had this problem.2 months ago my Dr. said I need to go on meds for high cholestral.ALthough it wasnt horrible 229 .Today I got my lab results back from blood test. My ALT level has gone from 21 to 86.I havent gotten ahold of my Dr yet and Ive been on line all afternoon researching this to see if this is normal. If this has happened to anyone else can you please let me know.I am quite concerned as my mother has end stage liver disease.Non alcholic Chirrous, and my father died from Alcholic Chirrous. I am a social drinker maybe a glass of wine with dinner couple times a month. From what Ive read the high level could be anything from a viral infection, to the SImvastatin, to chirrous.

Thank you in advance for any help

If you've been on an antibiotic like amoxicillin, combined with the statin, it could also show an elevation in ALT levels. Your best bet is to discuss it with your physician and hopefully it will ease your mind. Good luck.

Thank you for responding to my question,
My lab tests after taking the SImvastatin
cholesterol 171
tri 134
hdl 68
ldld 106
I do eat well.I probably do not exercise as much as I should but I do walk each day.Ive been trying for quite a while to get #'s down, that is why Dr.put me on the Simvastatin.I have not been able to get ahold of my Dr. since I've gotten the high ALT reading, he is out of town.I just stopped taking the Simvastatin.

By saying I eat well, I eat fish veggies, fruit, nuts, very seldom eat red meat.
I do however have a fondness for popcorn.I sure like everyone else there are things I could do to eat better.
I did finally hear from my Dr via e mail.He said to stop the Simvastatin for 2 weeks and then go get another lab test. That alot of people who take Statin's have their liver elevated but mine is not in a danger zone. And all prior's ALT test's my liver was happy and healthy.

Can I ask you what your diet consists of?
As I've said I eat alot of veggies, fresh fruits, fish, nuts, grain, seldom red meat.I do drink a glass of red wine once in a while.I walk each day,
I of course would much rather lower my cholesterol naturally, I dont know what else I can do?
I really appreciate you posting with me on this.
Thank You

Again, Thank You
