Hello all,
I have a feeling of tightness and discomfort in my chest all the time and an almost constant awareness of my heartbeat in my neck, I'm not sure if you can call it palpitations but its very scary because I keep feeling like its going to stop or something. I also have skipped, or rather "delayed" beats a lot of the time. The only way I can describe the delay is I know when my heart is trying to beat but it feels like its pausing (perhaps struggling) and then finally beats.
This all started a few months ago and it gets better and worse but never goes. I also get sharp pains from time to time in my left shoulder, neck, chest, back, right shoulder, fingers, and even teeth sometimes :s
I went to the ER once because it got really bad one night. They took 2 ecg's and said everything was ok. Could they have missed anything? I told the guy that the ecg was a few seconds and he might not have even got the pauses. He said one of the ecgs showed a slight delay but it was normal and the actual rhythm was fine.
I am 28, a non-smoker, and not overweight. Unfortunately I don't eat healthy and have quite a sedentary lifestyle.
Could I have any kind of blockage at this age? Am I worrying for nothing?
Thanks for any replies.
edit: Sorry I didn't mean to type my autobiography.

Did the emergency room physician tell you to follow up with an appointment with a cardiologist?  That should be your next line of action.   He/she may order other diagnostic tests or have you wear a special monitor which will aid in the diagnosis.  Make an appointment with a cardiologist.   Good luck.

Thanks for the reply Helen. No, he just told me there was nothing wrong and to see my gp if the pain continued. I will see my gp again (the first time I saw him he commented on my age and health and just said it was most likely a muscle strain). When I go to see him this time; I will make him refer me.
