I was wondering if anyone has any idea if Healthnet covers PFO closures.  My doctor suggested i have the procedure after a TIA and a moderate size PFO was discovered.  He told me he will get back within a few weeks after he gets two more candidates for the surgery, but i am super anxious to know if this procedure is even covered.  I just got back from the doctor today, and was surprised to find out this procedure was not even FDA approved.  I am not afraid, and am ready to have the surgery, but i dont want to get my hopes up if Healthnet of Arizona says no.

Hi, dontlookback, and welcome to the forum.  Unfortunately, I don't know whether Healthnet would cover your procedure or not.  You may want to ask your cardio's office staff, they would probably know if they think your insurance co. would cover the procedure or not.  The closure procedure has not been FDA approved for PFO closure, but it has been approved for ASD closure (another type of hole in the heart).  This is why there are so many clinical trials going on for PFO closure, so hopefully soon it will be FDA approved.  You may also want to ask the cardio staff if the doctor is participating in a clinical trial.

Good luck,
