I was wondering if any of you have MVP(mitral valve prolapse)? I have just learned like two weeks ago that I may have it and I go tomorrow to have a echo. I am sort of nervous but not as nervous as last weeks visit when I had a EKG done. I understand that it is a heart valve abnormalty.

Okay well I went to the cardiologist today and I have a very healthy heart the doctor says, I just have mitral valve prolapse which is nothing to worry about . It was just a small prolapse. I just need to have it checked every year and I should live a healthy regular life. To anyone else that has the mitral valve prolapse you will be okay just have it checked on yearly to make sure it does not progress and in most cases it WILL NOT ever progress. You may have some symptoms such as panic attacks, shortness of breath, fainting feeling, etc. but it will not kill you and they also have some medicines that stop the symptoms but most the time reassurance that your heart is healthy is all you need to have. A lot of the symptoms are mental and stress can bring them on. Eating a healthy diet and exercise helps to cut back on the stress which reduces symptoms. To anyone else with other heart conditions, I pray that you all get better and find peace inside yourselves. Take care and God bless.

Yes I was dx with MVP over 30 years ago. Was taken to the hospital because I thought I was having a heart attack and they gave me an echo cardiogram etc. At that time I was having palpitations and other stuff due to sheer anxiety and panic (which apparently they didn't know is often connected to MVP) and they wanted to put me on drugs, thank God I refused them as I am now 71yo and I think what they wanted to put me on would have done me in by now. I wish I had refused to take the antibiotics they insisted everyone with MVP needed for dental work etc all these years and now have decided we didn't need them :( I take Hawthorn herb as it strengthens the heart (also helps with blood pressure) CoQ10 and Vit E. I keep my weight down (am vegetarian) and walk daily. I try to steer clear of drs but did go back to cardiologist last year after 30 years and got an echo cardiogram and he said my heart was in great shape and although I still have MVP with regurgitation it has NOT changed in over 30 years. He actually wanted to know what I was doing to keep myself fit LOL should have charged HIM.
