Hello my boyfriend is having random and frequent sharp shooting pains on the left side of his chest. He is worried because it is not getting better and the pain is located where his heart is. He does not have medical insurance and fears the medical costs will be enormous if he goes in to get checked out. He is a a frequent drinker and I would estimate that he has 2-3 beers a night. He does not work out and he is a 29 year old male. He drives around in a van all day and goes all over town to fix medical equipment. (i.e. power chairs, scooters) Do you have any suggestions because I am very worried about him.
Thank you

Dear Michelle,

Hello and welcome to HealingWell .  If you have an urgent care clinic in your city you could have your boyfriend seen there and let the professionals decide if his pain is cardiac related or not.

Urgent Care offers convenient walk-in medical clinics with providers who are available during specific hours to treat any non-life-threatening illness or injury that needs immediate attention. Urgent care is a timely health care solution for families and individuals of all ages, including those who can't get in immediately to see their primary care doctor, are visiting from out of town or are new to the area and currently don't have a doctor. Patients who do not have a life-threatening condition can save time and money by using Urgent Care as an alternative to the emergency room.

I understand his concerns re the cost of health care that is why an Urgent care might be the least expensive and see what happens from there.

Again welcome and it sounds like your boyfriend is very lucky to have someone who cares about him.

Gentle Hugs
