Hi !

Please could I have an approximate cost for a full pericardiectomy in the US?

I have had dry, re-current pericarditis for two years, and plan to have a full pericardiectomy in 3 years time if the condition does not improve.
(mainly as the steroids I take are having rare side effects, and the pericardium will thicken over time resulting in further deterioration)

Im currently based in Australia, and there seems to be a lack of knowlege surrounding the procedure here. So I plan to travel to the US (if the condition deteriorates) and have a consultation/ procedure performed by a surgeon that has much experience in removing the pericardium.

Im currently saving my pennies just in case, and this is a last resort - but if anyone can recommend a surgical expert, and the approximate costs envolved I would be very grateful indeed!!

I would also love to hear about any experiences with the procedure and any hints or tips towards recovery, if possible.

Many thanks :-)

Marc

Good Morning Esky,

I wish I had a good answer for you but each facility and surgeon set their own fees for service. I did find a link to a site you may want to look at that possibly could help you find an answer to your question of cost for procedure.

The cost also depends on how well the procedure goes and patient recovery barring no complications.

Here is the link:

I am sure you will hear from other members. :)
