Hi everyone,

I'm a 31 yr old female that had an episode of aura migraine in 2008 - I had the aura with flashing lights in my right eye (first time I've ever had that although I'v suffered headaches all my life) and the entire right side of my body went numb. The numbness went off after about 20 minutes. Everyone figured I was having a migraine due to meds I was taking (which have since been stopped).

Since then the numbness came back back little by little and is now currently with me all the time - the intensity varies but it's always there. Some days it's mildly irritating and other days it is deepy painful and leaves me bed-bound with what feels like nerve pain and muscle spasms. I also experience blurred vision in my right eye a few times during the day, every day. Occasionally the numbness will 'spread' over to my left side but it's not the same as on the right, it's a much lighter numbness.

On my right side I have altered sensations, and it is usually colder than my left side. I suffer terrible migraines with the pain centering around the right temple.

I am seeing a neurologist for the 3rd time in a couple of weeks - I've had two MRIs scans and one CT scan, all completely clear with no leisons or anything abnormal. So I'm at a loss as to what is causing this problem.

Recently I have been reading about PFO (patent foramen ovale) and wondering it that could be the cause of this problem because there doesn't seem to be any answers from looking directly at my brain. I'd like to gather any ideas I can get to take to the appointment with me.

I also have hypothyroidism and I was diagnosed with Chronic Fatigue Syndrome in 2007 (although I believe the CFS diagnosis is wrong).

Many thanks :-)

Hello and I am sorry it took me a few days to get to your post. I have a hubby in the hospital and spending 12 hours a day with him.

Re your question, have you considered seeing a Cardiologist to get a second opinion as nothing is coming up with Neurologist testings? Please do feel comfortable being your own best advocate and know we are here to support you.

Gentle Hugs to you,

Kitt

Hey Stkitt,

Thanks for the reply - I think a visit to a cardiologist may be in order anyway as I suffer with low blood pressure and my fingernails and toenails are often blue. I do faint occasionally (been told it's due to low BP, but not WHY I have low BP).

I was just wondering if anyone on the board that has PFO had any crazy symptoms like mine - just looking for any route I can to explore as the docs kinda put it all down to 'chronic fatigue syndrome' with me which means they give up looking for a true cause.

I 'self-diagnosed' thyroid disease, I knew I matched the symptoms for it and it turns out I was right there.

Hope your hubby is doing ok (or as well as he can without knowing what's up with him). Hugs back to you for sure.
