Ok my 47 yo bro had a heart attack and 3 way bypass. He had an LDL after the attack of 160 Dr said probably much higher before, Triglycrides over 400. Smoker
Now Dr says genetic. I have 2 older Bros both ok ( as far as we know ) and me.
I am 50 yrs old, been on a statin for over 10 yrs, smoked 13 yrs ago, bp is good, LDL is under 130 HDL is over 50 Try's are under 100.
I have had ecos, ekg's reg physicals. I asked my Dr and he said " yup its a risk factor having a bro who had attack but we have you on statins, asprin, bp is good"
Now I have NEVER had any chest pain or shortness of breath. I worked 6 weeks ago moving snow for over 4 hrs with no problems. I try to eat good, lots of fish and not alot of meat.
Should I fake chest pains to get the Dr to do an angogram so I know if I have blockage ??
will be 50 years old this year ( 2009 )

Good Morning,

A tendency toward heart disease or fatty buildups in arteries seems to be hereditary.

Even though you can't change your genetic makeup, you can reduce your risk by adopting a healthier lifestyle that includes physical activity, a healthy diet, and avoiding tobacco. From what I have read you are doing all the right things. Your living heart healthy, kudos to you.

To the best of my knowledge, angiograms are generally not done unless you are having sx. I would not try to trick your physician into doing one but instead would ask him outright if it would be a good decision to have one. As with any invasive procedure you have to look at the risk factors involved.

I do hope you choose to talk with your cardiologist.

Take care and let us know how you are doing.

Kind Regards,
