I have had two abdominal surgeries in the past year to remove my colon. Both times it has through me into congestive heart failure. I then had to be taken to the heart ward and put on lasix and potassium until they drained the 36 pounds of water on me. My momma passed away at 55 with congestive heart failure. Im 35 and this scares me. They told me it was fluid overload and not to worry about it. Im now 3 weeks post op and Im still having shortness of breath. They had me on oxygen clear up until they release me because my o2 stats were low. But they said it was the medicine. Im just scared, I watch my momma suffer. How do I know if something is wrong? Any suggestions?

My surgeon just said its nothing to worry about but this is the same doctor that released me from the hospital the first time and I collapsed two hours later and squaded back to the hospital and admitted for congestive heart failure. I will contact a cardiologist tomorrow just to make sure.

Good Morning,

I do think it is wise of you to see your cardiologist as CHF can be managed with medications most of the time.

Do be your own best advocate.

Long story short, I was raped a couple of years ago and they tore up my anal muscles, they tried fix them and couldnt, I lost all nerve control. so I ended up with a colostomy which was the first heart failure, then I ended up with a parastoma hernia the ruptured and strangled my bowel which led me to emergency surgery on the 10th. In which again through me into congestive heart failure. So its not like i had a disease that created this problem. I am overall healthy. The cardiologist just says your too young.

Hey there, thank for your response re the question but please know you do not have to share anything that is difficult for you. You had stated you had colon surgery and for me that was enough. I am sorry you have been through so much. (((((((((Hugs)))))))))

You have the right as a patient to be treated with respect and dignity and a full explanation of why you kicked into CHF.

Some people may experience CHF post- op from fluid overload but not usually young healthy adults. I know this whole experience must be very stressful for you so please know that you have my support and also we have an awesome Anxiety Forum here so if you would like to do join us in that forum. I hope you have a wonderful therapist to help you through all you are dealing with.

Many gentle hugs,

Kitt

Thank you stkitt, I do really well. I do have a wonderful support system. I have since started advocating, so Im ok with speaking openly. I want women to know that just because they live in a nice neighbor doesnt mean they are completely safe. I am feeling better. It mostly scared me since my mother passed at such a young age as well.

Thank you for the reply and I am so proud of you and thank you for taking on the role of education and advocating for victims.

I used to be in charge of the SAFE ( Sexual Assault Forensic Examiner ) nurses in our ER when I was working in the hospital. What a wonderful program and the advocates that came right to the hospital...........outstanding.

I do understand your fears re your Mother's death at a young age. Please do keep on talking with us as we do care for all our members here in HealingWell.

Gentle Hugs and Happy Easter to you,

Kitt
